We need a name for this intermediate; I think it's useful enough to deserve something; maybe "Q"? "Z"? Whatever, we need a name for it so this confusion doesn't happen again.
I'll say N, since U is already used for U-turner.
I would really rather use the letter N (and all single letters) for something much more common, like this, where the canonical phase of the procrastinator looks like a lowercase n (this is how blonk-tie became J):

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
2o$obo$obo$2b2o!
I'm not saying that procrastinator definitely gets the letter N, but I would rather not waste it on an uncommon object.

What's wrong with "e9jp", exactly? As hotdogPi says above, this Formerly Known as Unidentified pattern doesn't seem to be common enough to need a one-letter identifier.

The active region here is ranked #46 in census.rle, and it's in its proper position or maybe slightly lower according to octo3obj+16. While this region doesn't deserve a single letter, it's definitely common enough and recognizable; users dani and bubblegum both saw it as familiar.

As the second half of the walrus → G converter, this region can be converted into a glider. Credit goes entirely to Goldtiger997; the only thing I did was recognize the region as something to keep in mind for future reference.

H-C with new catalyst:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 21, rule = B3/S23
2o$bo$bobo18b2o$2b2o18bo$20bobo$20b2o5$2bo$2bobo16b2o$2b3o16b2o$4bo11b

2o$12b3o4b2o$14bo!
Almost H-B, just needs catalyst

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 21, rule = B3/S23
2o$bo$bobo$2b2o2$20b2o$20b2o4$2bo$2bobo16b2o$2b3o16b2o$4bo11b2o$15bo2b

2o$14bo!
If there was a fishhook replacement that worked in place of the block (gives an extra dot spark and doesn't recover) this would be a new, very nice H-B.

Dependent H-to-pi found by combining Catforce finds with a manual brute-force search:

Code: Select all

The top catalyst is from HNW2T196, bottom one a separate barrister find. The output clearance is pretty bad, but it does connect to an R-to-B, giving a HxF151B. Not sure if there's other R conduits that connect here. EDIT: one of the R-to-Pi's also connects, but it looks like that's it (ignoring R-to-G's)
Edit: and a H-to-B, HBx118B

It connects to BBx187H. Also connects to BRx46B, which can be followed by conduit 1 (combined result HRx223H). But that's about it: the boat is in a bad spot, and can't be followed up directly by conduit 1. There may be other things that start in the same way--just need to find a replacement for that final boat.

Very entertaining, but that R input is hard to fit (though on can suppress the block in some other spartan way).

This doesn't have the best input clearance, but with a glider, there's no such thing as clearance.
(This might be known, considering its simplicity.)

Are there any known G-Z conduits?

Likely not, because there's a simple Z → LWSS, and the existence of a G → Z would make a G → LWSS that's almost an order of magnitude better than what we currently have.

I think that the reason nobody bothers to find one is because they all want an elementary G → LWSS, but an G → Z and a Z → LWSS combined will be faster than anything elementary.

All we really need is an anything → Z, if the glider can become that anything.
