Yes, but it can be trivially modified to have seven cells instead of eight, at the cost of lasting one fewer generation before stabilizing and having a larger bounding box.

In addition, a Herschel sequence without the first natural glider can be seen in generations 314–321.
Also, I see that you're trying to find a faster way to make a LWSS, probably after having seen my post. If you look at it again, you'll see that I have added a combination of two reactions that I already knew about that results in a LWSS emitted in a favorable direction. It doesn't require a transparent catalyst, but for reasons that I also added to that post, finding a stable catalyst will probably be difficult.

Correct. And the mango that then forms nearby. I'm guessing that the best restoration would likely be to just duplicate the output glider that also forms, and to use it to shoot down the boat, blinker, and beehive, and then resynthesize the beehive in the correct place. There's a catalyst that kills the boat that I can't show right now since I'm not at my computer, but it might be better to use the boat as a one-time reflector and boojum/rectifier it back into the blinker (to save one duplication). Hey, at least the LWSS isn't awkwardly placed this time.
EDIT: Fixed typo.

While I understand that all of our current conduits that make an LWSS make it in an inconvenient direction in terms of repeat time, I do not think that the fact that this method makes it in a more convenient direction will make up for your proposed staged recovery method, as staged recovery is typically slow. Also, your method appears to require at least as many gliders as required to synthesize a lightweight spaceship directly.

Looks familiar - I think there's one by Kazyan where your large catalyst is replaced by a transparent blinker
Wait what? Did you stabilize Kazyan's p2 G4 receiver??
This discovery is off-topic here! Congrats!

Edit: I have a vague memory of seeing something similar posted on the forums. Is this pattern known?
Found it: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1849&start=25#p27208

It's not a reference, it's literally the Greek letters transcribed into the Latin alphabet.

I realized that a known near-stabilization of the P41 wick can turn beehives with tails into gliders with what I presume is a known reaction. Unfortunately, such gliders go the wrong way.

This looks too complicated and too messy. to reduce any glider syntheses. (I'm talking about the diagonally symmetric region, especially from generation 27 to generation 30.)

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 18, rule = B3/S23

Edit: This is the latest that I have ever seen something enter the ∏-sequence.

Code: Select all

Also, I spotted two copies of generation 22 of a Herschel in generation 0 of that pattern.

Eater 1s are difficult to regenerate, so probably no for any reasonable conduit.

I'm trying to complete it (which I probably shouldn't have bothered to until I understand more catalysts since Kazyan apparently didn't complete it), but I haven't found a catalysis that prevents the fishhook from being destroyed again (which affirms the previous parenthetical statement), so I'm going to stop trying to complete that and look for other conduits accepting the two-glider octomino because I don't think that that has been extensively researched.

Edit: Can anyone clean up this O→C?

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 31, rule = LifeHistory

A similar O→B seems possible.

Another edit: Here's a messy O→B, although not the one that I was thinking of.

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 24, rule = LifeHistory
8.2A$8.2A7$7.C$7.2C$5.3C$5.2C9.2A$17.A$17.A.2A.A$16.2A.A.2A2$16.3A$16.A2.A$18.2A$2A$2A$5.2D2.D$6.3D$7.D!

Yet another edit: Here is a potential O→R or O→B. It also has the latest that I have ever seen something enter the dove sequence at generation 103, but unless someone finds another transparent fishhook reaction (which seems unlikely), that won't be useful.

Code: Select all

Fourth edit: Here are the O→Bs that I was talking about in my first edit.
