For completeness, I decided to check out the various non-trivial (but boring) interactions between the new P16 and some other small period oscillators. There appear to be three ways of sparking it with a figure 8. The last two could easily be synthesized by standard techniques, but the first needs a way to edge-shoot the figure 8. From the catagolue soups, it seems like most natural figure 8s arise from a LOM+house collision, which leads to the similar LOM+honeyfarm mechanism in the middle synthesis, reducing it by one glider. (The right synthesis is already optimal).

Unfortunately, this mechanism doesn't work for the left form. The first C1 soup uses a different mechanism, which does work, and can be injected in either of two phases. It's based on a pi+herschel+junk collision; unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to get those pieces (or anything similar) to come together. Any ideas?

Thanks! In addition to making this one form possible, this converter also reduces by one
about half a dozen other boring-but-nontrivial figure-8+plus+other oscillator syntheses
that required an 8-glider figure-8. It also allows synthesis of the trans form of the
Tumbling T-tetson (from 18 gliders). I'm sure this can be reduced; there has to be a
way to make the traffic light from less than 7 gliders!

Which means a) synthesise_patt_v1.2.py needs updating, it should include more 3G collisions cosisting of 2G constellation + G, and b) catagolue needs updating, preventing attempts to reinvent the wheel. Currently I am combing the Soup search results thread, and I was astonished by this severely overlooked 18G unicycle recipe:
