Here are the four 28-bit Eureka variants from 12, 12, 13, and 14 gliders respectively. All syntheses are trivial. I think David Buckingham found the four-gliders-to-two tubs reaction. I synthesized the last two on 2019-06-12 and 2019-08-09 respectively; the other two were synthesized much earlier.

Woops, just noticed the very first step is invalid but I think all the later ones are fine.
Edit2: threw in a turner to redirect one of the gliders so it doesn't cross the first drifter eater. I think it's valid now.
Edit3: very annoyingly there are exactly 20 rows of space between the two still lifes so the synthesis was not parsed correctly.

Looks good! You can save a glider by using a simple kickback -- the temporary turner is kind of overkill when there's so much space available.

Very nice! This later just turns into pi + traffic-light + junk, so if one could make a traffic-light plus the right junk out of 3 gliders, this might be reducable to 5. I was only able to find two one-glider cleanups (one of which leaves a beehive, and the other leaves another pi), so those wouldn't be improvements. Unfortunately, none of the 2-glider traffic-light syntheses are usable, as they all hit the pi from behind a bit too early, and only avoid doing so if they were one space further away. It's obviously doable from 4 gliders, as the original synthesis does it from TL + 2-glider spark. A solution might be lurking in the 3-glider collision database.

Re: trying to get this synthesis to show up in Catagolue: I'm finding that xp4_ykc48c93zyo3552zzzzzzwgg9r1ozgjk911066z1 (after the fifth step in the original series) now has a synthesis in Catagolue, but xp4_yko8gojdzyo6aa4zzzzzzxguvez069m424eez311 (the next step) does not.

Offhand I don't see why the transformation in question would have given Catagolue any trouble --
