Fuses and wicks with certain properties

Are there orthogonal fuses that retain constant width until they completely disappear? The cow would work, if it didn't leave blocks after it.

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
2o7b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o7b2o$2o4bob3o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b3obo4b2o$4b2o

2o$2o7b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o7b2o!
EDIT: Ants would would work, if they didn't spark and didn't leave a block.

Code: Select all

x = 39, y = 4, rule = B3/S23

I've found one. (EDIT: Well, technically, it's not a fuse, but a wick, but that's fine for my purposes, I was just looking for any extendable pattern with such properties.)

Code: Select all

x = 37, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
2bo7bo7bo7bo7bo$2bobo5bobo5bobo5bobo5bobo$o5bobo5bobo5bobo5bobo$6bo7bo

2bo7bo7bo7bo7bo!

Is it possible for a continuous fuse (all pixels are touching) to burn in one way, and only ONE way?
Is it possible for a continuous fuse to be completely "ignifuge" (unburnable)

Are you talking about orthogonal fuses or fuses in general? Do you imply, that there is no special pattern on one end (a fencepost)?

Then it's not a fuse, I guess, or something like an extendable still life, like the tub, or an extendable oscillator, like the phoenix.

I mean: A fuse (not necessary orthogonal, but this seems easier) with no special devices, not being a wick, which can or not be stable, and which has one and only one way to burn. It also sould be continuous, leaving no gaps.

Code: Select all

Then it's not a fuse, I guess, or something like an extendable still life, like the tub, or an extendable oscillator, like the phoenix.
I remember a continuous still life in which symmetric fuses always failed, and ended with the SL being shortened, not destroyed. But I'm wondering if it does exist for ALL fuses.
