It depends on whether the rotor is ever exposed to the outside. Live stator cells obviously block this. However, dead gaps in the stator that have 4 or more neighbors also serve this purpose, since no possible arrangement of rotor cells could possibly escape.

I've been trying to make a statorless P46 from twin bees shuttles, however this is proving much harder than expected. I know that if I can get them to produce nothing when colliding at a right angle, this will be possible, but they don't want to produce nothing. Here are some near misses: a block, a loaf, and a pi-heptomino. The transparent block eating reaction for the pi heptomino doesn't fit here.

Any other mold-supported oscillators that work under a birth suppression mechanism like these two (pulled from my wick stabilization)? I find it interesting that they both exhibit some kind of symmetry when my search was asymmetrical. I used a basic version of floating rows where when I saw the active part move one way or another, I would save the partial and move my 10-cell-wide search space in the same direction, if you know what I mean.
