It's known and easily locatable in DRH-oscillators.rle or similar, and I remember making a synthesis for it at one point.

I'm not sure who originally found it, or who originally synthesized it (unfortunately, I didn't keep a lot of detailed notes about such things at the time), but the pattern file in my collection is dated 2000-04-14, so the synthesis is at least that old. It has three syntheses, from 24, 28, and 34 gliders respectively. Was yours smaller?

According to DRH-oscillators.rle in the Golly pattern collection, it was discovered by Dean Hickerson before April 1992.

This is known and can be found in jslife in the 'osc' folder (downloadable from this page). You should check jslife if you want to know whether a pattern is already known. You should also check the osc-supplement collection available here.

I'm assuming that these are undiscovered, but I'm not sure. The p8 one probably is, and I'm sure the p12 can be used to make a similar wick.

Every such a bounded grid is isomorphic to a boundless grid with odd lines of symmetry in place of the grey lines, which is isomorphic to 2x2 reflected copies of the rectangle on a torus, which is isomorphic to an agar.

They all have corresponding agars, but they themselves are not agars, which I think is what he was thinking.

Yeah, they can be agars, but they are not required to be agars, like patterns on a torus.

Oh, my mistake, sorry. Thought they were in tori.
Probably because I wrote my own program that runs soups in small tori until stabilisation using a (probably inefficient) oscillation detection function.
I found 3*3 waves and stuff, though i lost the data by accident. rip.
