Another soup for Schick engine, (there are some strange things happening, in the census there are 3 soups, but on the object page there are 4 soups, 2 of them are the same) and another 10G synthesis, is 1G cleanup possible?

Definitely! I couldn't dig anything up by experimenting with Seeds of Destruction, but I found some near-misses with just a block or glider left over

EDIT: Sorry, posted a 10G solution the first time around -- now corrected. I accidentally left an extra glider in the first pattern I fed into the script. This one really is 9G now, but there may well be another solution still out there undiscovered, that recovers a lot faster.

Here's a variant cleanup that takes even a little bit longer to complete. The Schick-engine-absorbing blocks are included at the right -- there seems to be something of an art to placing objects to get rid of the output that's actually wanted, so that the script will recognize a one-glider cleanup... without being able to cheat and use those extra objects as part of a "solution".

A linear growth pattern with the apgcode yl512_1_-10_b7fcb4a3dcd2ed771cdee759694f89f1 has shown up. This is the first yl512, as well as potentially the first negative growth pattern:

For those who don't know, the -10 in the apgcode refers to it losing 10 cells every 512 generations. This is not some sort of perpetually shrinking object, rather, a quirk of the linear growth detection algorithm.

The object produced is a symmetric ark that fires gliders back at ash, and there are two of them due to the D4 symmetry of the soup. At T=32327, a forward-facing glider that resulted from the ash collisions hits the main engine. The back-facing gliders that come out next hit the new ash, while the ones that were already produced continue to head to the origin. By that point, the central ash has already moved out of the way and all gliders that make it there are annihilated by identical, symmetrically produced gliders from the opposing ark.

I believe that this reaction happened at just the right time for a linear growth check to happen, and apgsearch saw that there was a loss of 10 cells (2 gliders) per 512 generations at the origin, because there were no new gliders being produced in the same stream. 512 isn't the period of the ark, but it is the amount of time between each glider arriving at the origin, due to the ark getting further and further away. The soup also produced a proper apgcode for another linear growth pattern in the same soup, yl1536_1_482_d44ba9fdc6341229bec6087cb5bfd3d8, which may have been given to the other ark. 32327 is also close to a power of 2, 32768, so that might've been the time at which some important check happens.

I've attached a population plot up to T=40000. The red region is ~T=32000 and onwards. The big spike is due to the new ash reaction, but you can see some downward motion as the gliders continue to die off.

If someone that knows more about exactly how apgsearch object detection works can explain this in a better way, feel free.

A 31c/589 (19×31) diagonal puffer emits backward gliders, and due to Doppler effect the period of the glider stream is 713 (23×31) ticks. So after becoming predicable at generation 264,694, glider-block cycle reactions take place and cause a loss of 20 cells (4 gliders) on each quadrant.

The real question is, why is the ark itself ignored even though it continues going and contributing to the population growth?

I am not sure if this is possible, but one possibility is that apgsearch separated them into two different linear growths.
I will test this soon.
Edit: the pedestrian life one gave me zz_linear.
Edit2: the most recent version of apgsearch didn't like this. it gave zz_linear for the cgol soup as well.

It forms in a synthesis-friendly way that should make it synthesizable within about 12 gliders, possibly making it the cheapest of any burloaferimeter variant, but I couldn't find one because the active regions are so close together.

how exactly does this work? i understand a backrake creating blocks and then destroying blocks faster than it moves, but after a while, it will come to destroy itself. do the gliders that are given out in all sides have something to do with the reason of this being negative growth?

I was wondering when this would show up, as it only takes 2 QB's to specify in a C4 symmetry. This pattern first appeared in June and has appeared once more since then, which is actually one generation off from being the GGG's timing.
