I haven't commented on that discussion because I have thoroughly forgotten what the CatForce search on the octomino was for--I do not even recognize that transparent eater. I
think it might have had to do with catalyzing two-glider collisions in general to see if anything rare and useful happened?
I think that we should investigate the two-glider octomino because it seems to have a lot of uninvestigated potential. For example, here is a mostly-complete way to turn it into a century (with a demonstration of connectability attached):
Code: Select all
x = 32, y = 25, rule = LifeHistory
22.2A$22.2A4$13.2C$13.2C$11.3C$12.C3$4.2A$2.A2.A$.A.2A$.A$2A$15.A$14.
A.A$14.A.A6.2D2.2A$15.A5.3D4.A$12.3A7.D5.A.2A$12.A12.2A.2A.A$26.A$24.
A.A$24.2A!
There are alternative ways to suppress the toad, but I haven't found any with better input clearance.
Code: Select all
x = 23, y = 22, rule = LifeHistory
20.2A$20.2A4$11.2C$11.2C$2A7.3C$A.A7.C$.A7$13.A$12.A.A$12.A.A6.2D$13.
A5.3D$10.3A7.D$10.A!
Code: Select all
x = 22, y = 22, rule = LifeHistory
19.2A$19.2A4$10.2C$10.2C$8.3C$2A7.C$2A7$12.A$11.A.A$11.A.A6.2D$12.A5.
3D$9.3A7.D$9.A!
Code: Select all
x = 25, y = 22, rule = LifeHistory
22.2A$22.2A$4.2A$4.2A2$13.2C$3.A9.2C$2.A.A6.3C$3.A8.C$3A$A6$15.A$14.A
.A$14.A.A6.2D$15.A5.3D$12.3A7.D$12.A!
Edit: I just found a way with better input clearance.
Code: Select all
x = 21, y = 22, rule = LifeHistory
18.2A$18.2A4$9.2C$9.2C$7.3C$8.C4$2.2A$3.A$3A$A$11.A$10.A.A$10.A.A6.2D
$11.A5.3D$8.3A7.D$8.A!
Another edit: I was trying to complete an O→W partial that I found.
Code: Select all
x = 39, y = 27, rule = LifeHistory
38.A$36.3A$2A33.A$A3.A30.2A$.4A$13.2C$.2A10.2C$.2A8.3C$12.C3$37.2A$36.
A.A$36.2A4$32.2A$32.A.A$34.A$34.2A3$22.2D$23.D$21.2D$21.D!
It took me at least five minutes to find a shape to replace the fishhook with that would perturb the activity in the same way and cleanly annihilate the boat.
Do you suppose that we can get an O→L out of this?
I am tentatively considering myself back.
