I KNOW that my synthesis is horribly inefficient, but I was going for transparency. The others tend to involve perturbing active areas with gliders, which is horribly opaque. In addition to this, it's more transparent for me to start with blocks and add gliders to stable objects (Oscillators, including period 1, and spaceships). and build my way up. And I find it easier to start with 1-cell thick soups.
EDIT:
Because 1-cell-thick soups have a HUGE population-to-perimeter ratio, they tend to yield a LOT of objects. I searched almost 6 million soups, and got almost 300 million objects. 50-to-1.

I and wildmyron manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules.

Things to work on:
- Find a (7,1)c/8 ship in a Non-totalistic rule
- Finish a rule with ships with period >= f_e_0(n) (in progress)

Does ANYONE want to search 1x256X2+1 with me? I an DEFINITELY contributing the lion's share here(Nearly 4 BILLION objects!). This is a good idea, because 50000 soups yields more than 2.5 million objects, since the perimeter of the bounding box to bounding box area ratio is huge. In short, a great way to contribute a lot of objects.

When trying to synthesize objects that occur in soups, it's usually impractical to try to re-construct the whole soup. Instead, you should try to find a key predecessor that emerges from the soup and develops into the desired object. By synthesizing that predecessor directly, you can avoid having to do massive construction up front, and massive clean up at the end. In this case, the key predecessor is a forming pulsar hit by a four-bit spark in each corner, which can be synthesized from 15 gliders:
