Yet another Fx119 variant, doesn't seem too useful...

Not sure about that -- it might come in handy here and there. This new version allows the output Herschel's glider to escape, which is not the case for previously known suppressed variants of the Fx119:

The unsuppressed version of the Fx119 also lets that glider out, of course, but it has a somewhat bigger reaction envelope at the top. I don't think there was a known way to get an Fx119 output while suppressing the standard NW31 glider output and staying inside the new variant's bounding box:

This new variant has the usual repeat time of 231 ticks if that glider is allowed to escape, or 102 ticks if it's suppressed by a dependent conduit or some such. It also has the ability to cleanly suppress signals that are following 99 or 100 ticks behind another signal -- if that's ever any use. Looks like the old F116 conduit has a similar ability for signals separated by 133 ticks; probably there are other known conduits with similar suppression abilities.

Here is a new H->B conduit, whose systematic name is HF132B.

Code: Select all

x = 27, y = 34, rule = LifeHistory
24.2D$15.2A8.2D$15.2A7.2D$24.D6$22.2A$22.2A14$C$C.C$3C$2.C10.2A3.2A$11.
A2.A4.A$11.3A4.A$18.2A$11.3A$11.A2.A$13.2A!
Getting the glider output (which would also be new) looks possible, but I haven't found a way to do it.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

Very nice! Though there is an eater missing in what your pasted for it to be a conduit... the main b-to-h follow up works just fine otherwise:

Yes, great find! There aren't all that many known Fx conduits that recover as quickly as this new Fx191. The output Herschel's glider lane is transparent, which isn't all that common with newly discovered Herschel conduits -- those various clever new catalysts get in the way a lot. The input Herschel's glider lane isn't _quite_ transparent, unfortunately, but two adjacent lanes are, which is also fairly rare. It connects directly to a syringe with no problem, and has a sub-100-tick repeat time (94).

I think my favorite feature is that this Fx191 has a similar geometry to the Fx77, but a different output color -- so now Fx77 and Fx191 can usefully substitute for each other to fix color problems, the same way that L112 and L156 can:

Hey, that's a very nice find!

It's basically beehive stopper, but with a Herschel input instead of a glider input. To compensate for the extra expense, this "beehive keeper-stopper" doesn't blow up if you send in repeated signals to place the beehive -- and it can be reset by gliders on two possible lanes three lanes apart, which means that it works for both colors of passing gliders.

Repeat time is 318 ticks, due only to the SE-traveling glider that passes back through the entire circuit -- if that could be suppressed, repeat time would be a very reasonable 118 ticks. So the conduit doesn't quite fit the criteria for the H-to-H collection.

One of its unusual features is that it produces two extra output gliders that are not the first or second natural gliders of the input Herschel.

Cross-posting a stable Lx134 based on simeks' recent 180-degree same-lane glider reflector. This has had periodic equivalents for a long time (e.g., in Hersrch's database) but I don't think I've seen a stable one before, or at least not one small and fast enough to fit in the official collection.

A glider reflector in the truest sense...
This allows for the completion of the old incomplete Lx134, in a way that meets gmc_nxtman's criteria for Herschel conduits. Repeat time is 168+8N, depending on how far away the reflector needs to be moved to allow a following conduit to fit:

Well, that reflector is very small, one can make wierd things with it: (not a h-to-g0, but weird adjustable relay for 50% of gliders)

It can also make a conduit that fire a glider only if 2 input gliders are close enough (provided it with not at some illegal phase difference, causing some mayhem)

I did get a H-to-G0 using the new 180-degree reflector...
There's only one H-to-2G in the current collection that allows the same thing to be done somewhat more compactly -- but only somewhat, and the spacing between the gliders is unusably wide for a lot of purposes:

Yes, it's known. Your Herschel conduit is composed of two elementary conduits, an H-to-B (green) and a B-to-H (white):

Code: Select all

x = 44, y = 48, rule = LifeHistory

13B$18.10B$21.5B$22.6B$26.2A$26.A$27.3A$29.A!
Here I flipped the conduit to put the input Herschel in the standard orientation.

If you get the latest version of the elementary conduits collection (linked from this post), you should be able to find both of these conduits (HL153B and BFx59H Edit: as Dave noted below, the first conduit should have been labeled HL136B rather than HL153B. It is mislabeled in the conduit collection.).

Alternatively, notice that the full Herschel conduit takes 195 generations to turn the Herschel left and flip it, so the name for this Herschel conduit is Lx195. There is a Herschel conduit collection that comes with Golly (Patterns/Life/Signal-Circuitry/h-to-h-collection-26Aug2017.zip) where you can find this conduit

Yup, Lx195. It's also in the h-to-h ZIP file in Golly's Patterns/Life/Signal-Circuitry folder.

The notation is not really hard to figure out. The circuit takes 198 ticks to get from a 3-tick Herschel ancestor to the output Herschel, so 198-3 = 195. It's an Lx conduit because with the Herschel in its standard orientation, the conduit turns the Herschel left (L) and mirror-reverses it (x).

EDIT: Hey, how in the name of von Neumann's tungsten teeth did that elementary conduit get labeled "HL153B"? It should clearly be "HL136B", because 136+59 = 195.

Its technically a Bx170, but nice find! Its Spartan and interestingly, it sends the hershel directly backwards.

I think it's actually B170 (without "x"). A "Bx..." conduit would flip the Herschel (an example is Bx125).

What, what is considered flipping? (Honestly I have no clue on what is considered flipping, up-down or left-right?)
