G1 outputs can be kind of handy, because any lane with either glider color at 90 degrees to the G1 can be reached by adding a semi-cenark, usually with a couple of different choices for timing mod 8.
Can't we just use a highway robber to separate the gliders?
"Just"? Sure, we could, but what on Earth would be the point? Highway robbers are huge and painfully slow compared to any number of known G-to-2G conduits.

(And really this B266 G1 is just a little too big and awkward already to be much of any practical use. It probably won't be showing up very often in glider-adjustment circuitry, because we already have smaller options.)

I believe that changing which input glider results in an output glider results additional output timings mod 8.

Yes, in addition to the distance to the reflector in full-diagonals, there are three independent binary decisions:
  • Whether to reflect to the left or the right;
  • Which of the two gliders creates an output glider (this affects the output glider colour);
  • Whether to use a CC or CP semi-cenark (also affects the output glider colour).
This gives exactly two timing choices for each output lane.
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!

Sometimes you get unlucky and there's an overlap in mod-8 timing choices for two of the combinations, but not in this case it looks like.

For the CP turn (only) there's a third equally compact timing option available, using just a regular Snark and suppressing the second glider:

... Any hope of getting another glider out somewhere, while keeping the Spartan-ness and the 74-tick repeat time? That would really revolutionize single-channel construction, since SingleChannel74 is (probably) quite a bit more efficient than SingleChannel90.

Maybe there's a different way to perturb that active reaction (the one that eventually settles into a beehive by itself) to release a glider, possibly using transparent bait?

This useless thing works all the way down to P56. The input clearance is terrible though.

I last investigated that 5-6 years ago, and there was a result like this, but maybe it could be looked into for a glider output as well.

Does this H->G count as elementary?

As for why I thought that it was okay to post this here instead of in the H->G thread, I remembered EvinZL's post and made the opposite change, resulting in a Bx106 Herschel conduit without an Fx119 output that must be deleted if wanted.

I searched for a way to suppress the glider but couldn't find one. Can anyone else?

There's no need to guess about this kind of thing. Just select the pattern you posted in Golly and run the script in the first post, and subtract 31 minus 2 -- it's definitely a G29.

Then look up NW2T132 in the "NW2" section in the H-to-G collection, and you'll find it's already there, and has been there for something like half a decade.

The standard form of the single-output NW2T132 is Spartan, using a beehive and block instead of the 16-bit catalyst at the top. There's also a slightly less obtrusive position for the eater at the bottom:

Code: Select all

x = 41, y = 50, rule = LifeHistory

Possibly the 16-bit catalyst will be useful in a few rare situations where the beehive doesn't fit. The NW2T132 has never really seen all that much use anyway, though, because of the relatively poor repeat time.

I found a completely different method for a getting Bx106 without the Fx119 output that at first glance looks great.

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 31, rule = B3/S23
20bo$20b3o$23bo$2o20b2o$bo$bobo21b2o$2b2o2b2o16bobo$6b2o16b2o4$b2o4b2o

The problem is that the output Herschel's first natural glider hits the ship if it isn't stopped, an eater 5 doesn't fit, and feeding the output Herschel into a dependent conduit with the standard transparent block hits the fishhook that deleted the input Herschel's first block if there is one and turns the block into a honey farm if there isn't, so the conduit requires a 7×9 eater weld that I'm positive isn't Spartan in order to be able to feed its output into anything.

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 34, rule = B3/S23
16b2o$16bobo$18bo$13bo3b2obo$12bobo2bo2b3o$12bobo4bo3bo$2o11bob5o2b2o

The search for a good pure Bx106 continues.

Edit: The search is over now.

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 28, rule = B3/S23
2o$bo12bo$bobo10b3o5b2o$2b2o2b2o9bo4b2o$6b2o8b2o4$b2o4b2o$b2o4b2o6$36b
2o$36bobo$38bo$38b2o5$26b3o$17b2o8bo$18bo6b3o$15b3o$15bo!
Here's a version without the leftover block in case it becomes useful in the future:

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 28, rule = B3/S23
2o$bo$bobo9b2o7b2o$2b2o2b2o6bo7b2o$6b2o6bobo$15b2o3$b2o4b2o$b2o4b2o6$
36b2o$36bobo$38bo$38b2o5$26b3o$17b2o8bo$18bo6b3o$15b3o$15bo!

Another edit: I removed a block from the version that might become useful in the future.

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 28, rule = B3/S23
2o25bo$bo23b3o$bobo20bo$2b2o2b2o16b2o$6b2o4$b2o4b2o$b2o4b2o6$36b2o$36b
obo$38bo$38b2o5$26b3o$17b2o8bo$18bo6b3o$15b3o$15bo!
It can be replaced with an eater 2 in order to handle the output Herschel's first natural glider, but since there is already a block-fishhook pair that can serve the same point, that is useless for most purposes.

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 31, rule = B3/S23
26bo$25bobo$25bobo$2o22b2ob3o$bo28bo$bobo20b2ob3o$2b2o2b2o16b2obo$6b2o

Yet another edit: This almost lets the output Herschel's first natural glider out.

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 28, rule = B3/S23
2o$bo$bobo$2b2o2b2o4b2o$6b2o5bo$13bobo$14b2o2$b2o4b2o$b2o4b2o6$36b2o$

Almost a very weird blockic HLx38H... I think?? The location of the natural B's block must be unoccupied, but unfortunately there's a boat left behind that the natural glider doesn't clean up. It also features the earliest "H" interaction I've ever seen, starting from the 9-tick (!) Herschel predecessor:

Code: Select all

x = 25, y = 25, rule = LifeHistory

10BD$11.2B.2B2.2B!
There is at least one way to clean it up and get a signal out and get an H-to-G, but the initial H collision is so early that the H-to-G classifier script can't understand what's going on and so I couldn't easily get a proper timing (I believe the lane is SW-13):

Code: Select all

There might be other ways to clear the boat that allow getting a different signal out, which might allow other conduits to feed into it as well.

EDIT: Oh, before I forget, this finding was inspired by an old failed B->G posted by Kazyan here.

Indeed yes. Specifically, it's HSW-13T43, and it has two versions. I have added both versions to my draft of the Elementary Conduits Collection.

Unfortunately, for the left conduit, I can't find a way to delete the R-sequence before it destroys the fishhook, which prevents the pi output from being used. The right conduit uses the same E-making mechanism as PF*198E, starting with a B-sequence being perturbed from behind in a way that has the same effect. That region has a blockic fuse.

Also, I seem to recall there being a way to turn it into something else, but I can't find it.
Lastly, since I'm making a conduit post anyway, I'm going to mention this C->I conduit just in case it's connectable:

While filling the discovery information for RR56H, I found this composite L367 consisting of HLx111R + RR56H + Lx200 at repeat time 94 due to the H-to-R stage. 367 ticks is too long for the conduit collection, but I think it is worth mentioning as one of the blocks in RRx56H is shared with an eater 5 non-trivially.

Why is the overall orientation difference L instead of Lx, given that all three are designated with x?

HLx111R + RRx56H + Lx200... Why is the overall orientation difference L instead of Lx, given that all three are designated with x?
Very good question! I believe it's because "RRx56H" was incorrectly named in the LifeWiki article -- it's actually just "RR56H". The Elementary Conduits Collection has the correct name for all three variants. I've patched up the LifeWiki article and moved it to RR56H.

I'm so sorry for that. I made the page "RRx56H" when I didn't know about the canonical orientation of R.

Crossposting from "Thread for your basic questions", here is a dirty conduit with two different input locations (Fx119 and Bx106):

Those are actually two different C→G conduits tacked on. Both of them work, which is likely useful because their output gliders have different colors.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

The first one doesn't work as a merger, because the BTS/block gets hit by the second natural glider of the Fx119:
