Actually an H-to-R, but there is only one connection that I know of.
The boat and loaf variants of the R->B work equally well here. Unfortunately, the only B->X that connects to the output seems to be BBx187H. Even this only works in a limited number of cases. e.g.,

Meanwhile, a very different C-to-Pi:

Code: Select all

x = 32, y = 29, rule = LifeHistory
10.A$9.A.A4.2A3.A$9.A.A5.A2.A.A$A7.2A.2A2.A4.A.A$3A12.5A.A$3.A4.2A.4A

2A$5.2C21.2A$28.A.A$30.A$30.2A7$9.D.D$9.D.D$9.3D!
This C-to-G is also possible:

Code: Select all

x = 24, y = 28, rule = LifeHistory
10.A$9.A.A$9.A.A$A7.2A.3A$3A11.A$3.A4.2A.3A$2.2A4.2A.A2$22.2A$22.A$
20.A.A$20.2A3$6.3C$5.C2.C$5.2C10$12.2A$12.2A!
Also, perhaps we should look for Pi-to-Xs with a certain transparent block:

Code: Select all

x = 123, y = 25, rule = LifeHistory
118.A$15.2A99.3A$15.2A59.2A37.A6.A$76.2A37.2A3.3A$119.A$4.2C16.2A45.

I think this is a new H-to-G, SW18?T140? (I'm not sure where the zero-points are):

HSE19T106, actually.

And I'm pretty sure I don't have one of those in the collection. Same mod-8 timing as the last compound H->G (SE19T42).

No. The timings are measured from when the (proleptic) output glider crosses the vertical line through the initial object. In this case, the glider forms at 134 ticks, but it is 7fd to the east of this line. 134-(4*7)=106, and that's the timing.

Yeah, thunk has it right -- HSE19T106. It's probably safer not to calculate the statistics manually at all. The H-to-G analyzer script is right about what name should be assigned, pretty much by definition, unless someone finds a bug in the code.

You can select an H-to-G and run the script from the clipboard. The only caveat is that at the moment you have to have run something like pop-plot.py since the last time you opened Golly, so that Golly has the glife module already loaded. Golly doesn't know where to find the glife module when it's starting from clipboard.py stored in one of Golly's temporary file locations.

I should really patch the recognizer script to remove that annoying dependency. Will put it on the short To-Do list. EDIT: Done. If anyone sees any errors when running H-to-Gstats16November2015.py, please let me know.

-- That "H-to-G converter collection" thread is still a good place to put new H-to-Gs, by the way. This thread is already pretty long, and H-to-Gs seem to turn up several times more often than other X-to-Y conduits.

No conduit today, but an odd Spartan catalyst (from Bellman) for the back of an R-pentomino:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
6bo$5b3o$7bo3$6b2o3bo$3bobobo2bobo$b3ob2o4bo$o$2o!
It works for the natural R pointing the "wrong way" during the Herschel's evolution. I've also seen a few R-pentominoes pointing the wrong way when trying to make conduits, so this might be useful for perturbations somewhere.

It may be a little unwieldy because of the pseudo eater-on-ship, but at least it's the "easy" orientation.

Code: Select all

x = 30, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
27bobo$27b2o$28bo2$26b2o$26b2o2$7bo$5b2o19bo$3bo2b2o15bobobo$b3o17b3ob

Huh. A parity-testing toad-switch! ... or something like that. It does look useful, but my imagination is failing me when it comes to specifics.

I suppose it could allow incoming data, in the form of a stream of gliders, to be pre-tested before being sent into P2 circuitry, if we actually had enough P2 circuitry to make it anything but a bother to do that. Or, possibly more interesting, we could use it to retrieve parity information from the glider stream, and use some other variation in the relative timing of the gliders to store a completely independent series of bits.

It's a little tricky to get the "completely independent" part to work in practice, though. Really it's much easier to just send two gliders in series or in parallel, through regular boring old P1 circuits.

Slightly less complicated catalyst:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 16, rule = LifeHistory

It seems like there should be some way to get a signal out of this:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 10, rule = LifeHistory

a land of former winter, where no invisible walls stood,
or could stand for more than a few hours at most...

R-to-glider:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 30, rule = LifeHistory
2.A$2.3A$5.A$4.2A14$8.C$7.3C$7.C2$12.2A$12.A.A$14.A$2.2A10.2A$3.A$3A
6.2A$A8.A$10.3A$12.A!
Some sort of signal could also potentially be gotten from the front end.

EDIT: P110 gun showcasing a periodic B110:

Although for a single Herschel, it requires something more like this:

What appears to be a new R-to-G, given that there appear to be no drifter catalyses in the conduit collection:

A possible start for an R-to-LWSS:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 19, rule = LifeHistory
9.A$8.A.A$8.A.A$7.2A.2A$7.A$8.A.2A$6.A.A.2A$A.2A.A.A$2A.A.A$3.A.A$3.

It looks to me like the block will have to be made transparent.

A maybe-salvageable transparent block:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 8, rule = LifeHistory
16.A$5.2A7.3A$5.2A6.A$13.2A2$.C$3C$C!
I haven't found any way to keep the eater from getting destroyed, though.
Edit: Another one:

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 6, rule = LifeHistory
2A16.2A$2A16.2A2$8.C$7.3C$7.C!
This time it's the transparent block that I can't salvage:

Code: Select all

That's a very nice new straight-line period tripler -- easy to chain together to make high-period guns with very small bounding boxes (long and narrow). But yes, a stable version would be nice.

It's technically within the reach of current technology. You just have to route a signal around to rebuild a block:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 43, rule = LifeHistory
11.D$10.3D$10.D.2D5$3.2A$3.A$A4.A$6A2$2.2A$2.A$A.A16.2A$2A16.A2.A$19.

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 43, rule = LifeHistory

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 43, rule = LifeHistory
