Is this ERx62H new? (discovered by hand)

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 31, rule = B3/S23
10b2o$10bo$8bobo$8b2o7$o$obo$3o$bo4$3b2o$3b2o10$b3o$3bo$3b2o!
I think it is new, and it's quite a nice one. It won't be a Herschel conduit until someone finds an H-to-E that can connect to it, and unfortunately A for awesome's HF182E doesn't line up. But let's keep collecting these things when we find them, and remembering to post the words "E conduit" in the message every time, so that Google can help locate them again.

Ordinarily I'd say that things like this should go in the Elementary Conduits thread, but the rest of the E discussion is on this thread so maybe it might as well stay here.

Posting "E conduit" isn't enough, since a search would just ignore the "E". I typed "Eheptomino conduit", where "Eheptomino" is one word (or else the search would again ignore the "E"). Is there a way to make the search not ignore one and two-letter words?

Here's an interesting start to a possible E heptomino conduit which *is* compatible with the known H-to-E conduit. The boat doesn't have to be a boat, but something needs to be there in order to make the transparent block re-coalesce and prevent the nearby eater from being destroyed. If we can restore the boat though, it might be possible to get more out of this than just a glider.

The PHPBB-based search system just plain isn't very good -- doesn't seem to have an option to index one- and two-letter words, or hyphenated combinations, or word combinations in quotes that have to be in that specific order.

Google, on the other hand, knows about "E-heptomino" already, which is why I mentioned Google being able to help. It will probably start returning results for "E conduit" in a day or three.

In theory, this is to avoid hitting the block, there surely is many ways to proceed ^_^. Not even sure the natural glider from the H is required...

Here are what I think are two to H-to-Gs. I think they are also the first examples of X-to-E-to-X...
Definitely new -- systemic names NE-1T153 and NE2T116. There wasn't an NE-1 in the H-to-G collection at all.

The other NE2 has a different timing (56), which unfortunately puts it in the same mod-8 bucket as the new one.

Cross-posted to the H-to-G thread.

Sorry, meant to answer this sooner. I don't know about a Bellman solution, but here's a related old-hat result. It's possible to restore the useful two-thirds of that blinker, repeatedly, with a p6 pipsquirter:

Code: Select all

#C p6 Herschel fanout (64 and 65 steps)
#C The fanout uses Noam Elkies' p6 pipsquirt. One of the two output
#C Herschels (appearing in gen 64) is turned right w.r.t. the input
#C Herschel, the other one (gen 65) is turned left and flipped.

I guess that this didn't make it into Hersrch in the form of Lx65p6 and Rx64p6 conduits, only because lower-period forms of both conduits were available. Makes it easy to forget about this nice Herschel-splitting reaction, though.

It might be worth looking at this again, especially if higher-period pipsquirters are found. I guess p7 or p8 pipsquirters wouldn't work, though -- haven't checked higher periods.

Or... I don't remember if this Herschel splitter has been thoroughly checked against the current gun collection. Seems as if it would be easy enough to attach a syringe to the input. But it would only work for p6N, of course.
P6 works, but so does P4 and P5:

Whoa, a new elementary L122 conduit... right? It doesn't seem to come apart into pieces -- that transparent block is not the standard one. Cross-posting this from Useless Discoveries; this doesn't look useless at all.

Nice! It's too bad that the symmetric Spartan version of this doesn't quite work:

There's another non-stable conduit that has needed a way to push a beehive back by one cell, for a long time (so it just has to use a pentadecathlon, and is therefore p15). But of course this reaction is way too specific to apply to that situation.

Also, wouldn't you know, this makes yet another conduit that produces parallel gliders 17hd apart, whereas you need 18hd to be able to pry two lanes apart using Snarks (and Bandersnatches can't help).

Is there anything a little more Spartan-ish that can replace that eater4? Seems like a new use for an eater4 comes along only quite rarely, so this is a bit of a surprise.

Couldn't the aircraft carrier be replaced by a table? Isn't a eater-on-table easier to construct?
