R to G...
That fits very easily after HLx111R, if nothing else, and makes a workable (though very slow to recover) G2 output:

There are a number of known conduits that take a G2 glider pair as input, though nothing terribly exciting, I have to admit -- it's hard to make a case for using a G2 signal in most situations, because generally just sending one glider through a syringe or speed tunnel will require less circuitry and recover a whole lot faster.

This R to H with a transparent block is asking for a second transparent block, and an edgy ship eater. Here's the best solution I've found yet for the ship eater:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 9, rule = LifeSuper

Edit* This is actually just RR56H, my bad.

Can the boat be replaced with a catalyst to complete this H-to-LWSS? (by #(0(The)((Chewing))(Clown(Fan))))

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 26, rule = B3/S23

Also, the TL needs to be suppressed (or turned into a glider).

EDIT: Using a beehive instead of a boat extracts a Herschel. It may be possible to turn the Herschel back into the beehive.

Code: Select all

The conduit connects well with a fair number of R outputs, and it's a rare SE output for a direct R-to-G. The output is on a transparent lane, which is nearly unheard of -- RSE-3T41 technically qualifies, but it's not really transparent in most cases because the conduit delivering the R will usually get in the way. That's not a problem here, as confocaloid has shown above.

The first two catalyses are known, from RNW16T104 and RSW3T42 (the initial fishhook eater can be replaced by a block). It appears that slmake doesn't currently know how to make the two claw-with-tails (claws-with-tail?). But slsparse is currently getting upgraded, and I suspect that bespoke recipes for those could be added without much trouble.

It also connects to the old G2/G5/G6-to-R Herschel receiver, which could maybe come in handy somewhere sometime:

Unidentified→W...
With apologies, I've moved this out of the Elementary Conduits thread because it seems to set a bad precedent. There are many millions of unidentified patterns that turn into W signals with the help of a catalyst or two. But posting them all would seriously damage the thread's ability to store useful information.

If there's a known X-to-"Unidentified" that connects to this conduit, then by all means include that, and we'll turn this into an X-to-W conduit. There just doesn't seem to be any reason to pick that "Unidentified" as a stopping point.

Hey dvgrn, just so you know; this is the "Unidentified" in the speed tunnel, which is a G-X - X-H, where X is the unidentified.
squareroot12621's conduit is on the left, speed tunnel is on the right.

We need a name for this intermediate; I think it's useful enough to deserve something; maybe "Q"? "Z"? Whatever, we need a name for it so this confusion doesn't happen again.

from what i heard, it was named "e9jp" or something. i'm sure a better name is possible though.
it does seem to form most commenly from a pi hitting a block a certain way:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
2o$2o5$2b3o$2bobo$2bobo!
so maybe that could be a start.

Yes, as C28 mentions, this has actually come up before.

The Pattern Formerly Known As Unidentified now can no longer correctly be referred to as "unidentified", because the identifier "e9jp" has been applied to it. This is probably wishful thinking, but if everyone who has used the completely unworkable name "unidentified" can edit their posts accordingly, that would actually solve the problem.

e9jp is way down the list of common sequences. I would say it's not worth it to give it a single letter.

Agreed. Four letters seems about right to me...

With apologies again, I've moved this discussion back to the Elementary Conduits thread, now that I understand what it's about.

I'll say N, since U is already used for U-turner.
