Why would it be added to the ECC? Is there any reasonable way to get an R-pentomino in to that input location, while leaving the output directions clear?

Well, that is part of the Fx119 reaction as noted
in 2017. Attempts
were made to utilize said converter with or without duplicating signals, although (IIRC you have previously expressed that) something with heavy assistance to work may not really fit in the topic of elementary conduits.

It's probably time for me to say something about posts like this one. This "Elementary Conduits" thread has historically been used mostly for posting complete discoveries -- i.e., elementary conduits that actually work to change signal Y into signal Z ... even if people don't always pay attention to my pleas about only posting Y-to-Z conduits if there's a known X-to-Y and a known Z-to-something-else that can actually connect to it.
If everybody posted here all the conduits that they put together that
don't quite work, there would be so many posts that it would be hard to find the actual working conduits in among them. There are a number of other threads where it would be better to post speculative incomplete conduits of this type. See the first post in the thread for a list of options:
Something that produces an extra tub and block could either go in the
thread for posting dirty conduits -- or if you want to get rid of that extra junk somehow, then it's more
thread for posting speculative reactions that might allow for future conduits.
In this case, the "almost U to 3 gliders" reaction would be much more worth trying to salvage, if there was any known likely way to get a U reaction to appear in the starting position, with conduits that don't interfere with the U-to-3G reaction itself. Look at the problem in LifeHistory, with the 3G reaction envelope shown:
Code: Select all
x = 45, y = 69, rule = LifeHistory

Even if you don't add more catalysts to get rid of the extra junk blockntub constellation, your hypothetical input X-to-U conduit would have to not have any catalysts that overlap with the blue area. That's going to have to be a very unlikely, or very expensive, conduit.
Adding catalysts to suppress the blockntub while still getting those three gliders out doesn't look like a likely proposition at all, anyway, so you'd probably have to use up some of the output gliders instead, bouncing them around to shoot down the extra junk. That will clutter up the conduit and make it even less likely that any reasonable input signal will be able to get to the starting point.
I'm not trying to discourage you from hunting for these things, just trying to give you some idea of why your recent posts on this thread have often not gotten much of any response. It would be better to find another thread for incomplete conduits that are too speculative to have any likely completion.

Here is a way to turn a U-turner into a century (sequence).

Here is a way to turn a U-turner into a Herschel (which does not come from a B-sequence) with the same initial tub.
Code: Select all
x = 22, y = 14, rule = LifeHistory
16.C$16.C$16.C3.A$13.C2.C2.A.A$2.D11.2C4.A$D.D$3D$D17.2A$18.A.A$20.A$

I think that the input clearance is non-hopeless in this case, but if I'm wrong about that, Sokwe (or any other moderator) is free to move my post to the thread for useless discoveries.

Interesting! Totally different sequence leading to the Herschel from the one in Fx158, which is the only (?) (it can't still be the only one, can it?) other non-B-sequence Herschel output.
It's probably time to collect all the U-turner conduits together and see what kinds of connections are possible now, and whether it's clear that a new section of the ECC is in order (or a new column and row, if we follow the "ECC update draft.txt" model). It could just be coded as "U", right?

There is
a periodic D→H that does not use a B intermediate, but I think that that is the second stable conduit that outputs a Herschel that did not come from a B-sequence.

That's what I would do if I were still working on it, but Freywa gets to decide that now.

I support using U. Being a rare letter to begin a word, it's unlikely to conflict with any other object.

A while back, I found this clean R+glider+block reaction that shoots a Herschel sideways:
Code: Select all
x = 33, y = 18, rule = LifeHistory
30.A$30.A.A$30.2A2$3D19.2C$.D19.2C$.3D18.C10$16.2A$16.2A!
However, the closest I've seen to anything accommodating the input is the ancient G4-to-R receiver.
Speaking of different ways of doing things, here's another dependent H-to-MWSS+beehive (with an added mold to suppress the beehive):
Code: Select all
x = 36, y = 34, rule = LifeHistory
28.2A$12.2A14.3A$12.2A14.2A.A$30.A.A$29.A2.A$30.2A2$33.2A$32.A.A$33.A

A!
This alternate catalysis for the lower left might lead to a stable beehive suppression, but it'd be tough:
Code: Select all
x = 32, y = 33, rule = LifeHistory
8.2A$8.2A5$29.2A$28.A.A$29.A6$2.2A24.2A$3.A24.A.A$3A3.A23.A$A4.A.A22.

... though in the best case it still won't be Spartan, and for most purposes it's hard to beat the lucky R64+R64 connection in Kazyan's Spartan H-to-M. Still, I suspect there's something smaller, and something else a little bigger but with better repeat time, shooting down the beehive just before the H reaction gets there.

You get an Annoying Beehive or you get nothing. It's in the rules somewhere.
More seriously, though, that's a great-looking conduit. Props.
