Some of them go in different directions. Have you thought of putting the ends of two of the partials near each other and seeing if that can be stabilized?
Marine has a non-centered Moore neighborhood and at least one elementary gun with a very high period (11,843).
I'm in the process of reducing the glider cost of universal construction.

It's been there a while (the --max-width parameter), I just haven't used it much as negative results with it aren't usable for the spaceship search status page and can't meaningfully be compared to other programs with floating row support. lsss will throw out some but not all partials that are locally wider than --max-width, where "locally" is a few rows. (Internally what it's doing is it's throwing out partial columns/slices if it can prove that they're not part of a partial spaceship at or below the max width near the tail.)

One consequence of this rather vague behaviour is that you can end up with partials with rows longer than the max width. An example of this is a (2,1)c/6 partial in my previous post where one row had a width of 28. I knew this could happen, I was not expecting it to be that dramatic an effect.

The thing is though that even with the poor support lsss has for the feature, it does seem to help at the more difficult velocities.

Could you at least do it manually if the partials are promising enough?

With gfind there is no asymmetric c/8d at width 8. There is also no c/8d at width 7 with bilateral symmetry, width 9 with gutter symmetry, or width 10 with glide-reflect symmetry. The first search reached a depth of at least 110, but regular gfind lacks a dumping feature.

EDIT: The bound for glide symmetry has been improved to width 12 (l96).

This is an attempt at finding a gliderless c/4 diagonal with bilateral symmetry. To avoid the large amount of noise from gliders and big gliders, this partial was found using JLS.

What I see is glide symmetric along the diagonal (after 4 generations you get a mirror image)

Look again -- it's close, but not quite symmetrical.

Basically glide symmetry is impossible because the the leading sparker ships are exact mirror images, not phase shifted, but one is permanently a half-diagonal behind the other one:

It doesn't appear to narrow towards the back. I think that that's a bad sign.
Marine has a non-centered Moore neighborhood and at least one elementary gun with a very high period (11,843).
I'm in the process of reducing the glider cost of universal construction.

There are no c/6d spaceships at width 11hd. It took JLS less than an hour to rule this out. The longest partial looked something like this, but it wasn't as long. Have ikpx2's longest continuation of the 13hd version of the partial so far. The wiki page uses orthogonal bounding boxes for all spaceships, but I personally will use diagonal bounding boxes for diagonal spaceships, unless I need a specific shape or something, because it just feels more natural to align the bounding box with the ship's direction.

I personally think that diagonal spaceship speeds are a bit neglected. We've had lots of c/8o searches, but not many for c/8d (which I think calcyman is working on right now), and even c/6d doesn't have that many spaceships. I didn't get around to completing the 13hd search, but these partials looked really promising. I still fail to see how period-5 is pretty quick, since it took multiple days to complete MathAndCode's partial.
EDIT: This c/6d partial is one cell off on each side, can someone help complete it? I couldn't find any way to support it with any of the known c/6d spaceships either.

I'm doing c/8d, too. So far there are no glide-symmetric spaceships in gfind up to width 14, but it reached a depth of at least 103. I haven't investigated symmetric spaceships, but they are less promising, at least at low widths. I've also checked asymmetric up to width 8.

Marine has a non-centered Moore neighborhood and at least one elementary gun with a very high period (11,843).

I wrote a long rant about EV2Quadcolor but my computer decided to crash so you'll just get an abridged version.

EV2Quadcolor is pointless, slow, confusing and generally inferior.

Anyways you're correct and incorrect at the same time—gliderlessness is an art, not a science, and different people have different views on it (I would not consider either gliderless because I'm somewhat of a purist in that I consider c/4d spaceships gliderless if they do not contain regions that are gliders for at least two generations and move like gliders for the entire period, considering B29 and the like glider tagalongs while in your view they would be simply nongliderless).
