Edit: An aside on Intelligent Design and Irreducible Complexity The B - I - i' - P - L - E - L - repeating pushahead that fits in width 12 is arguably irreducibly complex: • If you remove components the remaining components either don't fit together at all, or don't stay in width 12 when repeating. • Some of the components perform specific functions: The L component connects to the B component at the front of the spaceship, the B component at the head does not require stabilization but can stabilize the tail of a repeated pushalong. The E component shifts the L component so it can connect up without going beyond width 12. There is a fair amount of what could arguably be called "design" here. • Probably has high "observed algorithmic specified complexity". There would be a fair amount of overhead in the mask and shift operations needed in implement the repeating boundry conditions in Ewert et. al.'s compression scheme so I'm not particularly confident in a high OASC here. In any event there is absolutely no way that this pattern could have been found by setting cells at random and seeing if the resulting pattern had the specified properties. Nonetheless lsss found it. lsss found it as part of a spaceship partial, a part that just happened to have additional properties it was irreducibly complex with respect to. As a spaceship partial it is not irreducibly complex. This is just another example of a system/pattern being irreducibly complex in one function but not another. The way I consider box-like spaceships is that they are not hollow (they have many cells), has more than 1 cell at the edge of the spaceship (the cell is close to the corner of the ship). Basically, a solid spaceship that fills in a box nicely. It would be better if there are more than 5 cells at every edge of the boxship in every phases. I would like to see boxships at most speeds.

Are there c/4 (1c/4) diagonal spaceships that doesn't contain a glider like component at the front and are not glide-symmetric and not asymmetric?

Are there any c/8 orthogonal back-end partials?

How about an alien-like asymmetrical solid spaceships? (Also want see at most speeds)

It turns out Tim Coe was correct about there being no (2,1)c/6 ships under width 18. I ran a width 17 search with LSSS, and the two longest partials were only slightly longer than his best one. I would posit nothing until at least width 19.

Is this thread the right place to be asking about whatever we call repeatable spaceship components ("waves" I think)? I wrote an exhaustive agar searcher and often its analysis of a result is that it's not an agar but a wave and I'm wondering if all the results spewing out of it are known. I assume the answer is yes, I was just hoping to find somewhere to check.

It's sort of hard to decide what speed to call it, but I didn't find it under (1, 1)c/2 (what the analyzer I wrote calls it), (1, 2)c/6 (an actually realizable velocity it could be considered to travel at), or 3c/8 (ditto). However I assume this is known, it's just way to small and simple.
