Re: is this c/10 spaceship known?

stupid question: how do I go about looking for new spaceship speeds? More specifically, how do I run wls and gfind? I'm not the best in the world with computers

It can also turn a glider into a pond. But nothing that can be used as a igniter. There is a slight chance that there is an appropriate reaction with two of them.Alexey_Nigin wrote:This spaceship can eat gliders:

I think the discoverer has the right to officially name it.muzik wrote:Should we set up a poll for the name of the ship?
Orthogonal of course. This happened with the corderships.Sphenocorona wrote:I just had a thought.... I think this is the first time a c/n velocity has been found before the velocity c/(n-1)...!(ignoring c/2, because lightspeed spaceships are impossible anyway)
I'd actually say the third one, as that one has the smallest bounding box of those four (by area). (A 30-cell phase has the smallest bounding box of all phases.)muzik wrote:I'd say the first one. RLE
I agree with EE, it should be the third - both because of its bounding box and because, in my opinion, the first kinda looks like it's going to move backwards (thanks to the sloped shape at the bottom).codeholic wrote:By the way, which of the four phases with 28 cells should be canonical? You were the one who discovered the equally tiny loafer. You'll definitely find something else if you put your mind to it.velcrorex wrote:Congrats on finding this. Who knows what other small ships may lurk on the edges of what we've searched. Perhaps we can keep better track of unsuccessful searches?

I based my assumption on the definition of the "standard form" given by http://pentadecathlon.com/objects/defin ... comparisonExtrementhusiast wrote:I'd actually say the third one, as that one has the smallest bounding box of those four (by area). The loafer pushes a loaf.towerator wrote:As of the canon, the third looks quite like a snake head or something, so I wouldn't be against a name like so, but the first one can be seen as a man so happy he's slightly crying...
However, if one considers there are too many "animal" ships, how about "carrier"? It seems to pull a block similarly to the weekender pushing a loaf.
I just ran this search in gfind and it refound the ship in a little over an hour. It's really amazing this wasn't found sooner.Scorbie wrote:Edit: How long did it take to find the ship?
The history of GoL will remember that sometimes, discoveries are right around the corner, provided one tries them.velcrorex wrote:I just ran this search in gfind and it refound the ship in a little over an hour. By the main page I mean the Home page.Apple Bottom wrote:Congratulations, zdr, this is an utterly astounding discovery, well beyond "awesome" and straight into "HOLY SH*T" territory! Not just a new spaceship speed, but a remarkably small, almost elementary ship. It'll take a very strong contender to dethrone this as 2016's pattern of the year in my book.

Name-wise - I'm pretty partial to "copperhead" myself, but the choice is of course zdr's.
