one cell thick patterns and *WSS

Post by DivusIulius » July 23rd, 2009, 7:02 am

Just for the sake of curiosity (and in the chance that it might help someone else at some point), these are the smallest (in terms of bits) one cell thick patterns to emit a glider, LWSS, MWSS and HWSS, respectively:

15 bits (13 cells) - OOO*OOOOO*OOOOO = 4 gliders
15 bits (12 cells) - OOOO**OOO*OOOOO = 6 gliders

23 bits (17 cells) - OOOO*OOO*OOOOO****OOOOO = 2 LWSS

30 bits (22 cells) - OOO**OOO***OOO***OOOOOOOOOOOOO = 2 MWSS & 2 gliders
30 bits (21 cells) - OOOO**OOOOOO**OOO****OOO*OOOOO = 2 MWSS
30 bits (26 cells) - OOOO*OOO*OOOOOOOOO*OOOOO*OOOOO = 2 MWSS & 2 gliders
30 bits (22 cells) - OOOO*OOOOOO***OOOO***OOO*OOOOO = 2 MWSS & 2 gliders

30 bits (26 cells) - OOOOOOOOO**OOO*OOOOO*OOOOOOOOO = 2 HWSS
