Two parts:
a) What is the pattern that lasts the longest that produces a single object (block, glider, etc.) or includes an object?
b) What is the pattern that has certain types of symmetry that lasts the longest? (No trivial examples, please)

Types of symmetry and record-holders that I know of are:

None: Lidka (29055)
Horizontal or Vertical: twelve bit object (see below) (369)
Diagonal: Lidka minus tub (595)
180 Rotational: two pi heptominoes (see below) (2292)
90 Rotational: unknown
Horizontal and Vertical: a second twelve bit object (547)
Horizontal, Vertical, and Diagonal (rotational implied): likely something with four pi heptominoes

Twelve bit object:

Code: Select all

OOO
...
O.O
.O.
...
...
.O.
OOO
O.O
Second twelve bit object:

Code: Select all

.O.
OOO
O.O
...

O.O

Two pi heptominoes:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 42, rule = B3/S23
