Wow. The wiki doesn't mention that puffer 2 can be stabilized in any way other that the ecologist. It would be nice if they could give some examples. I made an attempt once at creating an article for the sidewinder but Hunting objected, saying that it was the name of a spaceship in OCA. Hunting has previously objected to names in OCA because they were in Life, though (and thought I made up the term bakery) so I respectfully invalidate his opinion.

With the shear variety of spaceships discovered in cellular autonoma, name overlaps will be inevitable. However, the four-object constellation should be somewhat easier and faster to rebuild with modern technology than the five objects in calcyman's pseudo-Heisenburp design. If not, other four-object options can probably be designed made up of a two-object splitter plus a two-object "0-degree turner" an arbitrary distance away, which should be really easy to rebuild.
(And of course we can definitely get a much faster repeat time these days than that impressive structure made out of Silver reflectors and long convoluted Herschel conduits.)

Here is an example demonstrating that there is a usable spark produced on the other side. I think that's a definite maybe. It partly depends on whether the repeat time of the pseudo-Heisenburp device is more important, or the bounding box size. On the other hand, more outputs will also mean more cells where you can't put catalysts, which might mean you have to let signals travel farther away before duplicating them and bending them around and sending them back in, maybe with more expensive edge-shooters. So really until you complete a construction, it's hard to guess whether it will be either faster or smaller than the competition.
It's possible that the fastest-recovering pseudo-Heisenburp will be a staged-recovery mechanism:
glider hits one-time splitter#1, which produces exactly-timed output and one sideways glider;
sideways glider hits one-time splitter#2, which produces two or three signals immediately;
those two or three signals rebuild one-time splitter #1;
leftover outputs from the circuitry so far are used to rebuild one-time splitter #2.
It seems worth looking into the idea of a four-bait-object pseudo-Heisenburp, made up of two pairs of object with an adjustable distance between them. I'll have a look and see if anything like that is in the new OTT collection, especially with easy-to-rebuild objects.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be any two-object 0-degree turners that produce a glider on the right lane with the right timing. If there were, it would be worth looking for a third object that could be added to produce a sideways glider from its sparks. But all four of the turners in bucket0degCCcol16.rle have a non-zero lane offset.
(Yes, that file is misnamed, 'CC' should be 'CP', I still need to rewrite the categorizer script for 0-degree and 180-degree turners to include subcategories by output lane.) Here's one that's only off by two lanes:

Sure, there's no end to the "yes, but"s. You might be making the assumption that signals on one side have to be synchronized with signals from the other side, to make a collision. But if you can find factories that build each piece separately, then you don't necessarily need any synchronization, and circuits can be connected up as tight as you can make them.
A really lucky find would be a direct signal-to-X factory, where X is exactly the one-time constellation that needs to be rebuilt. That's a bit too unlikely to hope for, but maybe we can find a two-signals-to-X or three-signals-to-X, where maybe one or two of the signals just clean up some extra junk that is also created, or convert one object to another, move a block, etc.
Replacing some of the bait objects with catalysts might also be a possibility, though catalysts like that are a lot trickier to hunt for.
And again, a completely different design might be needed to optimize bounding box from what's needed to optimize repeat time, though there should be at least some correlation between the two.
