Inspired by a C2_4 soup, here is a 6G component that adds a long hook with tail motif to a beehive for 8G xs15_69m88czx56. The glider heading SE barely passes the beehive.

Nice! That takes a few gliders off of various recipes like xs21_c88m960uiz065.

I feel like there ought to be a spark_search replacement for that 6G thing, but haven't found anything yet.

EDIT: Huge improvement to xs21_gjl8gz1w34bkk8 -- was 23G, now 10G. How often are transfer.py optimization runs happening these days?

Great final step! Unfortunately, the complete solution as shown doesn't work, as the hook with tail created in step 5 is in a different orientation from that needed in step 6 (which is considerably more awkward to synthesize, especially with the boat in the way). Have you tried the spark_search "2g" list, but without waiting for the blinker to form? There are a lot more options for colliding two gliders with a forming blinker, as opposed to a blinker that has already settled. There are close calls even with just one glider:

That 2G block-to-Pi in that 27-glider synthesis if the p76 Pi hassler was found entirely by hand for the sole purpose of cutting out a block-removing glider after the construction of the heavyweight emulator. So no, I didn't use any databases for that specific reaction whatsoever.

This will not reduce the synthesis for symmetric scorpion, it is estimated 10g:

We can have a 2g symmetric scorpion destruction, but you would think that the 5 traffic lights would take 10 and 2 more gliders in the destruction would mean it would take 12g. Maybe it would be even worse because of the tight spacing. But, if you look at gen 10, it is 2 traffic light predecessors and 2 honey farm predecessors so that would take 8g but there is still the 2 extra gliders so 10 gliders. If you can destroy one in 1g without interacting with the other, then it would be 9g.

After the phase of that reaction in which it reduces to 2 traffic light and 2 honey farm predecessors, the two halves react only minimally, and you can do this:

So this would be a 6G synthesis, or possibly 5G depending on whether that TL+HF can be made in 3 gliders or not. For reference, the best synthesis is 4G. It's sort of neat to see this appearing from a proper symmetrical reaction instead of the asymmetric 4G, though.

Yes. An earlier spot from the soup of the first one suggests a simple predecessor from a house, blinker, and beehive, plus 1 glider cleanup:
