Heh, if you want fixed-cost construction for these Enough Snakes In A Pile To Make Indiana Jones Very Unhappy... without resorting to RCT hand-waving ... you won't get it with blinker puffers, because the activation gliders won't be fixed cost anyway.

Instead you might have to put together a recipe for a universal constructor that will cycle N times. On each cycle it will add one unit to the blinker trails, and one unit to a one-time spitter/shotgun structure that produces each of the four sets of perfectly aligned gliders. A faraway glider shuts down the UC and triggers a self-destruct, while other gliders/the same glider trigger the shotgun seeds.

EDIT: That's probably a silly design, though. Is there a known way to add a snake to a pile of snakes -- any cost? If so, then there's a fixed-cost recipe for building any Pile O' Snakes by building a glider-constructible snakestacker made out of slide guns, then shooting it all down when the snakestack reaches the right size.

The stack of 2 snakes is easy, and can be made from 5 gliders.

The stack of 3 snakes used to be unexpectedly difficult; Extrementhusiast found a Rube-Goldberg synthesis of it that required 69 gliders - now replaced by a 31-glider synthesis based on the new snake stack technology (29 to make 4 snakes, and 2 more to remove one of them).

No way was previously known to make stacks of 4 or more snakes. In particular, there was no converter known to just add an additional snake to such a stack (although it has long been known how to add an additional snake offset by one row, without mirroring).

EDIT: Unfortunately, not at this time. You would need to use some kind of constructor technology to incrementally build 2 "constructor arms" that simultaneously release arbitrarily-long waves of gliders. E.g. make a puffer that builds an array of self-destroying one-shot glider generators, that can be triggered (and destroyed by a single glider that is then released when the arms are in place. Interesting as a proof of concept, but given how likely it is to actually need such a snake stack, this is not likely to see any actual practical use.

Very nice! It seems a little strange that this is true, but for large enough snakestacks, a construction based on temporary slide guns will be cheaper than iNoMed's recent discovery.

Oh wow! Very nice. I must have missed that (although in fairness, it is a fairly recent discovery). I figured that there might be some way of doing this, but I had never seen anyone get anything close before. (I had worked on the problem a bit in the past, with no useful results).

I didn't have any better luck than you did with spark_search, and didn't try popseq. But is the purpose of this just to get the cost down under one glider per bit? One of the two G1 soups was hiding this reaction, which could probably be completed at a total cost of around 15G:

0. Extracted the R+LoM+junk reaction from soup.
1. Used spark_search.py on the junk to find a dirty 3-glider replacement, as marked in state 1.
2. Used synthesise-patt.py on the Lom to find a 3-glider recipe fitting the three gliders in 1. It turned out that only two of the outputs were valid in the given orientation and timing, one as marked in state 9.
3. After numerous failed attempts to put the R-pentomino with results from synthesise-patt.py, turned to spark_search.py and found a dirty 3-glider placement delightedly, as marked in state 11. Some non-trivial interaction happens in the area marked in state 4.
4. After confirming that the core reaction works, manually moved gliders around and found one-glider cleanup on two sides respectively, as marked in state 13.
It was later obsoleted today with the discovery of a new method. Coincidentally, this one was also completed by using synthesise-patt.py once and spark_search.py twice. A glider is saved from cleanup.
The following incomplete and invalid reaction for the third still life seems to have potential for another motif:

This gets close; you just need to find a way to add a honeyfarm around generation 32. I couldn't find a way to do it. It might be easier if you use a different LOM predecessor, but the ones I tried interfered with the top honeyfarm. There might be a way to juggle these three pieces to all fit:
