-------------------------------------------------------------------
here's a fat list of names with their respective meanings
-------------------------------------------------------------------
oscillators
110P62 = winker (the two merzenich's p31s that are slightly off-sync resemble eyes opening and closing (albeit not in sync), which in itself also resembles winking. there's also two blinkers in the middle)
117P18 = r-snacker (the two extended snackers hassle what resembles an r-pentomino in the middle)
123P27 = intestine (this one is obvious: it resembles a small intestine)
144P24 = royal family (this one is also obvious because of the two crowns)
145P20 = mattress (the three middleweight emulators resemble a bed)
14P2.1 = wishing well (it is ridiculous how this pattern is still unnamed after all these years. it uses the reaction observed in the pattern "lei", and since lei is romanian money, "wishing well" was something that popped into my head. probably because of how it looks circular and that stuff)
14P2.3 = wishing fox (literally looks like a wishing well and fox combined, boom, wishing fox)
14P2.4 = melting clock (resembles a large clock, however it looks wonky. so i called it melting clock after that one famous painting)
168P22.1 = soup kitchen (only because of the four griddles that stabilize it)
186P24 = swamp (the toad in the middle looks like it's on some sort of lilypad, and so "swamp")
258P3 = behemoth (just look how big it is)
29P9 = funnel (the cells trickling out of the pattern at the top right looks like some sort of hourglass thing, but looks more like a funnel so let's call the entire thing a funnel)
30P6.1 = joke (this one is a good one. the block in the middle turns into a grin, back into a block, then back into a grin and back into a block again whenever it is hassled by a eater bridge eater. this resembles a eater bridge eater telling something humourous to make the block grin, and so the block turns to their buddy (the adjacent eater bridge eater) and tells them the aforementioned joke, making the block grin again at the joke. and so the cycle continues, with the block telling their joke to their buddy, then going to another buddy and telling the same joke, etc.)
33P3.1 = beeswax (only because of the two beehives at the top)
41P7.2 = llama (at generation 5, it emits a duoplet spark, resembling a llama spitting and it eventually dissolving)
44P14 = elevator (an obvious one: the space in between going up and down also resembles an elevator ascending and descending)
54P17.1 = hot spring (a lazy one: at generation 11, a tub appears. that's it)
60P312 = three-hundred and twelver (self-explanatory)
62P3.1 = deception (another good one. the duoplet sparks that it produces look like duoplets, but they function as dot sparks because of their position)
77P77 = topaz (everybody else in the thread is saying topaz, so why not)
84P87 = soggy bread (only because of the tubs and the loaves)
94P27.1 = tea for two (the two ponds and the two blocks represent cups and seats respectively. i guess you could say the two "thumb 1"s represent the two people?)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
methuselahs
7468M = helping hand (the pre-block aside the r-pentomino is meant to represent helping the r-pentomino to survive for longer)
24827M = three threes (after 24827 generations, it will have created exactly 333 blocks, hence the name)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
spaceships
117P9H3V0 = tranquilizer (only because of the front which resembles a dart)
119P4H1V0 = bear (at the front, the spaceship nudges some sort of beehive predecessor, and because of the stereotype that bears eat honey, i called it a bear)
233P3H1V0 = goldfish (the tail and the rotund body of a goldfish resemble this spaceship)
295P5H1V1 = king prawn (it speaks for itself)
30P4H2V0.4 = duopleter (1. at generation 2, it possesses two duoplets in the middle of it, and 2. a pun on a loafer)
339P7H1V0 = gallop (the "chicken feet" at the end of the spaceship represent feet, galloping in a way)
55P9H3V0 = loafish (at generation 1, two loaves are present. since the spaceship kind of resembles a fish in generation 1 as well, i called it the loafish)
56P6H1V0 = earthquake (the blinkers on the side represent the ground shaking. it also possesses 56 cells, and element 56 is barium)
ok i'll stop now
