Omnibus with tubs reduced from 11G to 8G:

Code: Select all

A one-glider cleanup might be possible.

On this episode of "syntheses which start incremental but turn into soup-based in the last step and could probably be reduced further to be just soup-based": http://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xs1 ... cz23/b3s23

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 26, rule = B3/S23

Running synthesise-patt on the object at generation 26 unfortunately yielded no results; popseq anyone?

EDIT: Some more:

Code: Select all

x = 24, y = 16, rule = B3/S23

@Freywa I've submitted all objects/constellations (with a semiperimeter <= 40) with 3G syntheses that don't already have 3G syntheses in Shinjuku: https://gitlab.com/parclytaxel/Shinjuku ... equests/40

This should be helpful for Alex Greason's collision search, since it will have 14000 new small low-cost targets to bombard with gliders.
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!

Out of deference to my workload elsewhere, I should have given you write access to Shinjuku by now. Try and push a commit; if you can't please let me know.

Now Ian asked about modifying transfer.py for things other than still lifes. You should be able to work on it.

Thank you very much! I believe you need to explicitly set the permissions on the master branch so that Developers can merge to it: https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/project ... nches.html

I should have done that now.

15G for a 160-bit still life; as far as strict still lifes go, this is a lower glider-to-bit ratio than anything I've ever seen: (taken from the first C4_1 soup)

Code: Select all

x = 57, y = 57, rule = B3/S23

29b3o$29bo$30bo3$42bo$41b2o$41bobo!
EDIT: Amazingly, the fact that the pulsar has a maximum population of 72 never came to mind when originally making this post.

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 6, rule = B3/S23

Sadly, this won't reduce the glider cost of that still life.

This one's even more useless: 9 gliders for Aries between two blocks = a waste of gliders.

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 13, rule = B3/S23

They're not soups.

If they are neither soups nor syntheses, why post them in the "soup-based syntheses" thread?

Sadly, this won't reduce the glider cost of that still life.
It does, however, create syntheses for these:

And yes, I am aware of the fact that there already exists a much better synthesis for it. That's why I marked it as Useless.

True, it's just that I was inspired to create a 6G after looking at that since I had never really looked at the old 7G synthesis before and therefore didn't realize until now that it would be so easy to reduce.

This reaction would significantly reduce the Jack synthesis, but I can't find a way to insert the pre-pulsar into such a tight space:

Using this beehive+pi equivalent from spark_search allows a 3G pulsar-making collision to work:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 43, rule = B3/S23
o$b2o$2o3$9bo$8bo$3bo4b3o$4b2o$3b2o2$9bo$7b2o$8b2o6$2bo$obo9bo$b2o2b2o

!
The lowermost and topmost gliders are cleanup. It might, maybe, be possible to deflect the otherwise-active areas with 1G each to replace a glider in the second step.

Okay, only 112 unsynthesized xs19s are left. Here's the kind of synthesis that nobody wants to see in Catagolue for xs19_ok2t2koz0343:

Code: Select all

#C from the second xs19_ok2t2koz0343 soup,
#C http://catagolue.appspot.com/hashsoup/C1/l_JhHhDKbaebU67610504/b3s23
x = 68, y = 75, rule = B3/S23

22bobo31bo$22bo31b2o$55b2o33$2o$b2o$o12$57bo$56b2o$56bobo3$65b2o$65bob
o$65bo3$13b3o$5b3o7bo$7bo6bo$6bo!
I couldn't seem to locate a later stage of this with 3G-constructible active messes. But even if I didn't miss something obvious, I bet there's something 4G, or some other clever trick with this or one of the other soups.

EDIT: xs19_gs2pd2kozx32 has only one soup, but it does allow for an obvious synthesis. Might be just about as ugly as the previous one, though:

Code: Select all

x = 39, y = 32, rule = LifeHistory

4.D$3.3D$2.D2.2D4.2A$10.A.A$11.A$15.A$.A13.A$.2A12.A$A.A!
EDIT2: There's a nice soup for xs19_gs2pb8ozw346. Can this be made into a (not often usable) component?

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 11, rule = B3/S23

Could work for an xs23...
That's a nice reaction -- cheap, fast, and clean. On the other hand, xs23_gbb8b96z123033 has so many C1 soups that quite possibly there's an even cheaper recipe waiting to be found.

Looks like I'm using the same tools as Ian07... but I think my incarnation ought to win, since it has one more stage:
