Do you mean "based on the number of soups", or did you actually see some promising ones? From a quick scan yesterday it seemed to me that there was a reason there were no C1 soups -- there's a symmetrical-corner effect that produces these things very easily, when eight consecutive cells are ON at the corner for example. But that doesn't help much with a synthesis, I don't think:
Code: Select all
x = 12, y = 12, rule = B3/S23
bo2b2obo$o$3bobobo$bo6bo$2obo2bo2bobo$3o2bobo$3o3bo2bobo$2obo7bo$o3bo
2bobo$o4b2o$2o2b5o2bo$8o2bo!
I just rechecked the first few soups from each symmetry, and the still life always appears within the first dozen ticks or so. There are some more interesting cases where the still life
doesn't show up at the edge, and/or gets converted from something else --
Code: Select all

My Turn To Try To Pawn Off Some Work On Someone Else
Here's a problem that might be more tractable, but I don't have an immediate solution for it. The spark I want doesn't seem to be in Extrementhusiast's components collection.
xs17_4alhe0db is one of those loopy SLs that doesn't look to me like it ought to be a still life at all. It has just a few soups on Catagolue, but the
seventh C1 one (and a couple of the others) suggest this synthesis:
Code: Select all
x = 11, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
2o$obo3b2o$obo2bo2bo$obo3bobo$2o5bo3$7b2o$6bo2bo$6b2ob2o$7bobo$9bo$6bo
bo$b2o$obo$2bo!
The D-shaped thing to the west has lots of three-glider recipes. So does the spark to the south, or its three-ticks-later descendant anyway. But I think all of those recipes make the spark in the same way, with a domino spark too far to the north a couple of ticks before the spark appears. I don't think the loaf can get there in time after the domino disappears, so a more expensive 2bo$b3o$4o$o! spark maker is needed that pushes the spark northward at the end.
These are obviously possible, since a couple of the known soups have them. Does anyone have a recipe lying around already, or is it time for a little gencols searching?
