Synthesis components

Post by praosylen » July 22nd, 2019, 3:31 pm

I've been finding quite a few of these lately and, since there doesn't seem to be any existing "components for components' sake" thread, I thought I'd make one.

To start things off, here's a simple 3G tub to boat claw:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 15, rule = B3/S23
o$3o$3bo$2bobo$3bo2$12bo$11b2o$11bobo$b2o$obo$2bo$4b3o$4bo$5bo!
And a pair of related tub to eater (3G) and tub to twit (4G) components:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
2bo$2b3o$5bo2b3o$4bobobo$5bo3bo2$b2o3bo$obo2b2o$2bo2bobo!

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
2bo$2b3o$5bo3b2o$4bobob2o$5bo4bo2$bo$b2o2b3o$obo2bo$6bo2$4b2o$3bobo$5b
o!
EDIT: 4G bookends to cis-shillelagh on dove:

Code: Select all

x = 48, y = 15, rule = B3/S23
3b2o33b2o$3bo2bo31bo2b2o$4b3o32b2obo2$4b3o32b3o$3bo2bo31bo2bo$3b2o32b
o2bo$7b2o29b2o3b2o$7bobo33b2o$2o5bo$b2o42b2o$o44bobo$5b2o38bo$4b2o$6b
o!
EDIT 2: 4G bookends to xs17_3lka96z321 should reduce a couple other 17-bitters as well, none of which currently take 17+ gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
2o$o2bo$b3o2$b3o$o2bo3bobo$2o5b2o6bo$8bo4b2o$5b2o7b2o$4bobo$6bo$9b2o$

Snake to snake-bridge-snake reduced from 7G to 6G:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 20, rule = B3/S23
obo$b2o8b2obo$bo9bob2o2$4b2o$5b2o$4bo2$8bo$7b2o$7bobo3$2b2o10b3o$bobo
10bo$3bo11bo2$11b3o$11bo$12bo!
Found using synthesise-patt.py:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 11, rule = B3/S23
obo$b2o$bo2$4b2o$5b2o$4bo2$8bo$7b2o$7bobo!
EDIT: How would I go about automatically applying this to all the still lifes that use the old 7G component?

3G table to (pseudo) long hook on trans-ship:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 17, rule = B3/S23
4b2o$4b2o2$4b4o$4bo2bo5$4b2o2b2o$3bobob2o$5bo3bo3$3o$2bo$bo!
3G table to long hook with tub:

Code: Select all

5b2o$5b2o2$5b4o$5bo2bo5$4b2o$5b2ob2o$4bo2b2o$9bo$bo$b2o$obo!
Something similar is probably known, but a properly-placed domino spark at t=11 would allow a 6G table to long hook weld melusine:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
4b2o$4b2o2$4b4o$3bo3bo$3bob2o$o$ob2ob2o!
Similarly with these two 3G table to long hook with beehive components, I doubt they reduce anything by themselves (except maybe by having higher clearance), but they allow a 5G table to long hook siamese eater head and a 6G table to long hook weld loop. (The two original components are mostly interchangeable aside from minor clearance differences.) [EDIT: the second and fourth below are actually known, although they were quite hard to find when I went looking.]

Nice results - it looks like the '-z' option in collisrc.py to require a stator in the search result is working well.

Two converters I found mucking about with an 18-bit SL Goldtiger posted on the 17 in <17 thread. I don't really know how to name them and I haven't found them in the synthesis database.

The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

A couple converters starting from a dead spark coil:
4G 2-sided house to R-mango (only helpful in situations where the normal 3-sided 2G house to bookend + 2G bookend to R-mango combination doesn't fit):

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 20, rule = B3/S23
3b2ob2o$3bo3bo$4b3o2$4b3o$3bo3bo$3b2ob2o4$6b2o$7b2ob2o$2o4bo2b2o$b2o8b
o$o3$9b2o$9bobo$9bo!
Loaf converts a dead spark coil into a canoe plus a debris block; there is almost certainly a 3G solution along these lines, although I don't have the necessary tools to find it:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 12, rule = B3/S23
2ob2o$o3bo$b3o2$b3o$o3bo$2ob2o2$5bo$4bobo$3bo2bo$4b2o!
4G dead spark coil to shillelagh:

Code: Select all

x = 42, y = 17, rule = B3/S23
2ob2o31b2o$o3bo31bo2b2o$b3o33b2obo2$b3o4b3o$o3bo3bo$2ob2o4bo27b2o$37b

EDIT: 3G carrier to trans-hook on R-bee:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
3b2o$3bo$5bo$4b2o4$2o2b2o4bo$b2obobo2b2o$o3bo4bobo!
3G carrier to long ship:

b2o$bo$3bo$2b2o4$4b2o$4bobo$2o2bo$b2o$o$5bo$4b2o$4bobo!
5G carrier (or 4-5G anything that fits) to integral:

Code: Select all

x = 53, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
4b2o45b2o$4bo47bo$6bo3bo38b3o$5b2ob2o38bo$3o6b2o37b2o$2bo$bo9b3o$11bo

While trying to improve a step in the synthesis for Achim's p11 (table on table -> block on table) I found this component which unfortunately doesn't work for that purpose since it basically forms the block from the other side:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 16, rule = B3/S23

3G bi-boat to twit:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
5b2ob2o$4bobobobo$b2o2bo3bo$obo$2bo$8b2o$7bobo$3b2o4bo$4b2o$3bo!
Not strictly a component, since nothing can be directly attached to the bi-boat, but can be modified in at least one way to become one, here converting a bun supported by a snake-type edge to a prodigal attached by a bit in 6 or 7 gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 15, rule = B3/S23
12b2o$13bo$12bo$12b2o$9b2obo2bo$5b2obobo3b2o$4bobobobo$b2o2bo3bo$obo$
2bo$8b2o$7bobo$3b2o4bo$4b2o$3bo!
Useful in only a very limited range of circumstances, but I doubt there's a cheaper way to do similar.

EDIT: Intuitive monodirectional 3G bi-boat to hat, possibly known:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
3o2b2ob2o$2bobobobobo$bo3bo3bo3$2o6b2o$b2o6b2o$o7bo!
Again, it's not very useful by itself due to excessive obtrusiveness, but the same modification applies as before:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
12b2o$13bo$12bo$12b2o$9b2obo2bo$3o2b2obobo3b2o$2bobobobobo$bo3bo3bo3$
2o6b2o$b2o6b2o$o7bo!
EDIT 2: 3G block to scorpion:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
7bobo$7b2o$2o6bo$2o2$3b3o2b2o$5bob2o$4bo4bo!

An alternative 4G block to snake:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
3b2o$3b2o2$6bo$6b2o$5bobo$b2o$obo5b2o$2bo5bobo$8bo!
I don't know that it directly improves anything apart from maybe some repeat times, but the 3G block to snake+junk block is almost certainly useful for something, given how ubiquitous this type of conversion is.

Very weird 3G block to pseudo-cis-boat on long boat:

Can anyone complete this?

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
5bo$3b2o$4b2o2$2bo$obo4bob2o$b2o4b2obo2bo$10bobobo$10bo2bo$8bobo$5bo2b

I'm not sure how to generate a spark that works the same as the one on the lower left.

Applying a different combination of sparks, also ones I don't know how to construct, yields a larger almost-SL instead:

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
5bo$3b2o$4b2o2$2bo$obo4bob2o$b2o4b2obo2bo$10bobobo$10bo2bo$8bobo$5bo2b

2G+1G block to ship component, based on 2G+block on block collision:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 20, rule = LifeHistory

Another one, based on a boat+2g collision:

more stuff,might be known:

Code: Select all

x = 69, y = 67, rule = B3/S23
2$10bo$8bobo17bo22bo$9b2o15bobo20bobo$27b2o21b2o5$7b2o18b2o21b2o$7b2o

The latter two are no components, still nice.
The second row allows this pseudo still life in 4G:

Code: Select all

Block on snake-end to siamese shillelagh. Improvable if a clean 3G checker spark inserter can be found that fits; the B activation on top disappears cleanly if left alone, but the checker spark here doesn't.

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 18, rule = B3/S23

Maybe someone finds a way for to insert the methuselah:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 9, rule = LifeHistory
5.3A6.3A$4.A2.2A4.2A2.A$3.2A12.2A$4.A2.A2.2D2.A2.A$9.D2.D$8.D.2C.D$9.
C2.C$2A8.2C8.2A$2A18.2A!
for a hive to honeycomb.
It is a consequence of this sequence:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
2bo$2o$2o$2bo$2o$ob4o$2bo3bo$2b2obo$4bo!
or this:

Code: Select all

x = 37, y = 57, rule = B3/S23
2$24bo$23bobo$23bobo$24bo2$9bo9b2o7b2o$7b3o8bo2bo5bo2bo$7bobo9b2o7b2o$

$9bo9b2o7b2o2$24bo$23bobo$23bobo$24bo!
It also allows this:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 15, rule = LifeHistory
9.A$7.2A$7.2A$9.A$7.2A$7.A.4A$9.A3.A$9.2A.A$11.A3$2E18.2E$2E18.2E$10.

This works, although an optimal solution to the original problem would be up to two gliders cheaper, depending on the cost of the block:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 24, rule = B3/S23

I have ran transfer.py on all unsynthesized xs20 still lives to get a list of usable components.

https://gist.githubusercontent.com/test ... onents.sjk

It solves at least five still lives:

Code: Select all

Nice! I'll look at any new unsynthesised left-hand-sides and parallelise transfer.py on those, in the hope of finding some multi-step solutions.
