Fun with X-pentomino

One X-pentomino turns into a traffic light.

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bob$3o$bob!
What about putting two X together?

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bo3bo$3ob3o$bo3bo!
It grew very large at generation 36, but then vanished suddenly.

Another pattern with two X, but they're a bit farther apart.

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bo4bo$3o2b3o$bo4bo!
They became two T-tetrominoes at generation 8, and
then became two traffic lights.

Here's another one:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bo5bo$3o3b3o$bo5bo!
l found a pulsar!

Try this:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bo6bo$3o4b3o$bo6bo!
That's an interchange.

What about this?

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bo7bo$3o5b3o$bo7bo!
It looks like an interchange, but...

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bo8bo$3o6b3o$bo8bo!
Well, that one looks dirty...

Now, let's look at some different way to arrange the two X.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = B3/S23
bo$3o$bobo$2b3o$3bo!
Just two loaves.

This one rapidly dies.

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 6, rule = B3/S23
bo$3o$bo$4bo$3b3o$4bo!

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = , rule = B3/S23
bo$3o$bo$2bo$b3o$2bo!
Two blocks.

It doesn't look like someone has discovered
an "X factory" or "X conduit". l'II put it here as a challenge.

Beacon in 11 X-pentominos, using a 4 X-pentomino glider seed:

Code: Select all

x = 56, y = 60, rule = B3/S23
3bo$2b3o$bobo$3obo$bob3o$4bo25$28bo$27b3o2bo$28bo2b3o$32bo4$49bo$48b3o
2bo$49bo2b3o$53bo9$33bo$29bo2b3o$28b3o2bo$29bo4$54bo$50bo2b3o$49b3o2b
o$50bo!
Please don't multiple post. The forum rules are here.

You can also use an X to delete a block.

Code: Select all

x = , y = , rule = B3/S23
bo$ooobbboo$bobbbboo!
But it's very slow.

Yes, but the reason I used a glider is that assuming the Xs were put in the right place, the Xs form traffic lights, messing up the whole thing.

In fact, the X deleting the block is almost the same as diehard, but is 4 generations ahead.

Probably because
  1. X is too short lived
  2. X produces a symmetrical explosion, so its hard to feed it into a conduit

X-to-glider (or rather, TL-to-glider):

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 19, rule = B3/S23
5bo$5b3o$8bo4b2ob2obo$7b2o5bobob2o$14bo$12b2obo$13bo2bo$13bob2o$12b2ob
o$8bo6bo$7b3o5bob2o$8bo5b2ob2o$2b2o$bobo$bo$2o8b2o$10bo$11b3o$13bo!
If anyone can replace the bottom eater with a blinker to TL, we'd get a gun.

Note: This was noted by Sokwe (I think) a few years ago.

Edit: This was the best I could found; The link on that post is a dangling link :(

That from gen 1 has the exact same evolutionarily sequence as the pre-pulsar.

And the fact that X is basically the same as the T tetromino.

If you put an X inside the ash of an X, a honeyfarm appears.

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = QuadLife
2.3D2$D2.A2.D$D.3A.D$D2.A2.D2$2.3D!
If you stick another X in it...

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = QuadLife
6.D$5.D.D$5.D.D$6.D2$.2D3.A3.2D$D2.D.3A.D2.D$.2D3.A3.2D2$6.D$5.D.D$5.D.D$6.D!
Put another X in the ash of the pattern above...

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = QuadLife
7.3D5$7.3D2$D4.D2.A2.D4.D$D4.D.3A.D4.D$D4.D2.A2.D4.D2$7.3D5$7.3D!
Another X here...

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = QuadLife
8.2D3.2D$8.2D3.2D3$11.B3$11.B$2D19.2D$2D19.2D$11.A$4.B2.B2.3A2.B2.B$11.
A$2D19.2D$2D19.2D$11.B3$11.B3$8.2D3.2D$8.2D3.2D!
Continue adding X...

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = QuadLife
8.2D3.2D$8.2D3.2D7$2D8.3A8.2D$2D19.2D$8.A2.B2.A$8.A.3B.A$8.A2.B2.A$2D
19.2D$2D8.3A8.2D7$8.2D3.2D$8.2D3.2D!

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = QuadLife
8.2D3.2D$8.2D3.2D4$11.A$10.A.A$10.A.A$2D9.A9.2D$2D19.2D$6.2A3.B3.2A$5.A2.A.3B.A2.A

Ah, Traffic light... That's a loop...

You can kill a Galaxy easily by putting an X in it.
