Another edit: It turns out that a two-glider collision can create a V-spark that works in the conduit, so now the BFxH1 can be used for arbitrarily large periods, and the preceding conduit does not need to be intentionally messy.

The reaction at the center reminds me of when I was trying to make a G→H or G→B that took advantage of the fact that a beehive is a one-glider seed for an R-pentomino. (There's a third way to hit a beehive with a glider that produces a B-heptomino and other junk, but that looks less promising to me.) Here's a way to create two beehives, but neither is put back with the correct orientation.

There's also a century, would could be hassled back into a beehive, possibly along with one or both of the beehives (as well as removing any beehives not necessary for restoring the original beehive with eaters), but by then, the repeat time would probably be longer than that of the syringe. (The other way to make an R-pentomino by hitting a beehive with a glider is quicker, but that still doesn't leave much time to hassle the century.)

Usually, I just try to perturb a reaction with stable catalysts, and if I run out of options and it still doesn't work, then I use sparkers to complete the conduit.

I only use sparkers if I already see a partial and can't complete it with only stable catalysts, but I'm wondering whether or not I should even do that because periodic conduits are not as useful as stable conduits.

Well, once again, a periodic stabilization is still better than nothing at all.
There are also special uses for some periodic conduits. If I remember correctly, there's an R64 variant that uses a figure-8 and a Kok's galaxy, such a variant can be used instead of a regular R64 to make a statorless P256 gun. I also have a feeling that periodic conduits might have some uses in self-constructing circuitry-if you can still get a universal set of components with the limited timing options you have, you get the benefit of easier synthesis. Which is easier to synthesize? That crazy weld in the syringe, or an Eater 2 and a blocker? A snark, or a P8 bumper? All I'm saying is that periodic conduits can be useful in their own way.

This part remains to be proven, I'd say. Things like simsim314's
Remini are certainly interesting, but the gains from "easier synthesis" are questionable.
It's ultimately just not that easy to build circuit structures when they have to be precisely synchronized with each other. You might end up building a lot of one-time turners so that the whole structure can be initialized from one input signal, or you might come up with N different recipes for a glider on each construction-arm output lane, to build a period-N structure. Either way you end up with a lot of complexity in the toolkit, that isn't necessary with stable conduits.

There have definitely been a few cases where periodic conduits were eventually replaced by stable ones. Usually the stable versions have some big hard-to-construct Bellman catalyst in them, though, so for the particular goal of self-constructing circuitry I don't know if periodic circuitry has ever contributed very much.
There's certainly a lot of periodic stuff in the minimum-bounding-box gun collection, but it's mostly just glider reflectors these days. There's not enough room in those bounding boxes to fit in very many Herschel/pi/B/R conduits of any kind, and periodic ones are usually bigger than stable ones.

Well, that's another thing that sparkers are useful for. They can be used to help make a working "preview" of what a completed conduit would do.
The periodic R conduit's pentadecathalon exists solely for the purpose of clearing ash. I couldn't find any stable catalysts for the ash cleanup, but I can see what it would do if it was completed with a stable catalyst.

The pipsquirter can also be moved one cell to the left. Using it probably makes the conduit harder to construct instead of easier, but I suspect that there are other periodic solutions (and hopefully at least one stable solution).

The pipsquirter can also be moved one cell to the left. Using it probably makes the conduit harder to construct instead of easier, but I suspect that there are other periodic solutions (and hopefully at least one stable solution).
But why not this?

Yes; that's the problem. It's possible to eat it with an unruly weld, but I'm wondering whether there's a way to drop a bait object for the first natural glider to annihilate.
