What is that supposed to do besides release a couple of already-known gliders?
I am tentatively considering myself back.

It's just supposed to release a known glider (one that I seem to have found), but that spark doesn't have enough clearance to do this.

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 21, rule = LifeHistory
10.A$8.3A$2A5.A$2A5.2A7$3.A$2.A.A$2.A2.A$3.2A2.C$7.C3$6.2A$6.A$7.3A$9.
A!
Edit: To make it clear, I was trying to catalyze a wing (so a loaf plus an extra cell), then I added an eater, then I noticed that it put the loaf in the exact right spot to allow one to place in that extra cell to repeat the reaction. Afterwards, I was able to get out a glider and delete an excess blinker. It's just barely possible to get a domino in to the converter in theory, but it's REALLY DIFFICULT due to that eater.
Edit:

Is there a replacement catalyst for the fishhook (or another way to prevent the relevant region from destroying the long hook)?

Code: Select all

It makes a B-heptomino, but there is a spark behind it that hits it if it isn't perturbed first, so I think that it can only feed into BFx59H (as shown) and BL84I. However, it might be possible to turn the perturbed B into a recognized output.

Edit: Yes indeed.

I wonder whether it is possible to extract the XWSS output that almost forms.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

I am not sure how many conduits colliding with some kind of runaway-glider activated factory baits can be found, here is a random one that seems could be tamed:

Code: Select all

x = 50, y = 62, rule = LifeHistory
3$18.A$17.A.A$17.A.A$18.A2$22.2D$15.2A4.D2.D$15.2A5.2D2$10.2A6.D$9.A

A$33.3A$33.A!
As far a usefulness goes... they are likely more bulky, but some could have low repeat time nonetheless. And maybe, just maybe, one would guess some xwss out at some point.

The bulky weld probably can be improved.
