LLS now gives us the tools to investigate whether a stable chainable version exists. Unfortunately, my searches suggest that it's unlikely that an elementary, symmetric chainable catalyst exists at low-ish repeat times.

Attached is the current LLS file I'm running, which should take another day or two to finish. The version with one fewer generation of repeat time took 10-12 hours to complete. The strategically-placed zeros in the middle of the final generation's asterisks are wwei-style branch-cutting to rule out the ship+eater result and a regular eater-based result, neither of which work.

EDIT: For future readers: this search finished and indeed came back with no results.

Don't worry about it. I only suggested investigated that conduit because it seemed like making it would be relatively easy straightforward: One only needs to worry about cleaning up junk and not actually creating the ∏. However, I now see the problem: Nine rows is not much room to place catalysts in. Given that you and other users have already invested resources searching this, I suspect that trying to complete the PT31 that I mentioned in the same post is probably a better idea than conducting a search for a PF30 with one tick higher repeat time than the previous search.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

Wow, that's a good one -- huge amount of clearance, and a fair amount of potential for late-stage catalysis. I'll try setting up something like a three-catalyst 'catgl' search on this, and see if anything good turns up.

I suspected that there was something good that could come from that particular placement of the pi and initial fishhook (with a block added in order to prevent a wing sequence from destroying the fishhook).

There could very well be other useful possibilities as well, and I started to search for them before remembering that that is exactly what CatForce was designed for. Also, even without any catalysts, there's a dirty century that is edgeshot. I figured out how to suppress the block but was unable to suppress the junk below and to the right of it.
Also, instead of simply eating the wing sequence, one can turn it into a stationary object in a variety of ways. This might be useful as a means of preventing the chaos from destroying a catalyst or leaving behind objects in difficult-to-remove-from-places if it goes back to the right.

Well, catgl almost sort of produced a period tripler, producing gliders in different directions for two of the three stages -- but I'm not sure there's a way to bring a pi in such that the third-stage glider can escape:

A fishhook-type catalysis is required, but the catalyst can't recover too quickly.
This performs the proper catalysis, but it comes back one generation too soon to not get hit by a spark, and it's too large to fit, anyway.

Thank you. Hopefully a smaller catalyst indeed can be found, as the current version doesn't have good input clearance. I tried to increase the input clearance but was only able to do so marginally and at the cost of the stator extending farther downwards. Oh man, that's really nice! Unfortunately that block is just barely too close to be fed by HL75P or HF95P, so without miracle this seems like it can only connect to the periodic BR176P (or RR204P which is currently a behemoth). That conduit seems to be showing up as the only solution a lot of the time now, and it's making me really want a better stable version that's actually good enough for the ECC...

It's also worth noting that this does work with the two known E->Gs that are buried in the ECC, but to my knowledge it does not seem to work with the known E->B or E->H conduits unfortunately.

I still think this is a promising starting point for trying to find new conduits for the E or for the Pi that produced it. Here's a near-miss P->2G (not decomposable) which is only useless because of an annoying failed B output:
