I agree that could work, particularly if later gliders just fix something assuming a previous collision had an excess. In practice, the more complex it is, the less likely it will ever fit together. I was hoping (though I've tried this before) that there might be a simple constellation just over my past search horizon that could reappear after a few steps. It would not be likely to appear at the same place or orientation, but could be reset over a few steps. The fact that the biloaf does this is very nearly miraculous.
