New type of wickstretcher?

New type of wickstretcher?

Post by David » April 20th, 2011, 6:36 am

I'm thinking new type of wickstretcher.
Its pattern is...
1. Wick pushes non-spaceship based object. (e.g. still life)
2. It stretches forward of fixed velocity. (Maybe it is slow.)
I named it 'wickbeam'. Is it can be constructed?

I do not understand what it is you are describing. What do you mean by wick? Maybe you should invent your wickbeam first and then I can watch the pattern and understand what it is.

However, this did make me think of something that would be interesting: a wick composed of stable static elements that when one kind of signal is applied, the wick burns except that a new static element gets formed just after the last one that burned.Yet, when another signal is applied, a new static element is formed just before the first one. Then, some kind of adapter that turns the former kind of signal into the latter kind of signal in the absence of a wick would turn this thing into an infinite binary counter :D

It just occurred to me that such a pattern would be the first logarithmic growth sawtooth with exactly logarithmic diameter. Now I wish I had the know-how to try to engineer it.

Sorry for that.

So pattern of wickbeam is this.
1. there is(are) stable object(s) (e.g. still lifes, oscillators, etc.) around the wick.
2. it(they) makes the wick grow.

So, wickbeam is one of wickstretcher. Can it constructed?

And, can 'auto-growing-wick' exist?

These already exist, by the way. Slideguns are examples, with the additional effect of radiating gliders (which can be removed by using two enantiomorphic slideguns such that the gliders annihilate).
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!

Nice idea. If tail of wickbeam follows head of wickbeam with same velocity, they will be a spaceship, dosen't it?
I think we can make a spaceship with new velocity, with this method.

This sound like a "pushalong" spaceship/wickstretcher engine, similar to the c/6 Dragon. Assuming that the "leading" still life would be compulsory?

Sounds also compareable to the "hivepusher" mechanism I've found in the LifeForce rule, tho…

Correct. "Pushalong" of the wick.

Perhaps.

I think so. So we should find "hivepusher" mechanism in true Life.
