So I was playing with the 13-engine Cordership, adding random stuff in front of it to see what happens, and I got this rle:

Now I was wondering if the pattern that resulted (mostly after generation 1000) was interesting and new at all, or if it had already been seen. If it's old, does it have a name?

EDIT: After a bit more data, I notice that the pattern gains population at the approximate rate of 2 pop every 9 generations. Dunno if that's interesting or not, but hey.

What you have there are block-laying switch engines. The block-laying switch engine and glider-producing switch engine were the first objects found that travel diagonally at c/12. They are based on the simple switch engine pattern discovered by Charles Corderman.

Also, if you want to post a pattern on the forums, just paste the rle code into your post and surround it with code tags. The rle code of a pattern can be obtained in most Life-simulating software by selecting the pattern and copying it.

Thanks for the tip, and for the link! I'll remember that in the future. I'm guessing from what I read that two of the engines in the cordership hit a block or something and started laying blocks. Once again, thanks!
