Schick Engine and Pecanins Giant

Post by Pooping_Alien » March 9th, 2012, 10:06 am

Hello.
It's known that two HWSS's can support a giant "fish" pattern (3 cells longer than LWSS) (Pecanins Giant)
I found that twin Pecanins Giants can support a Schick Engine if given support from two HWSS's.
Start by drawing a Schick Carrier in its "box" stage, only 3 cells longer than two HWSS's.

http://pentadecathlon.com/lifeNews/2008/01/index.html - on the right half of the image for the flotilla is the expanded version. However, it needed a minor tweak - place the HWSS one space closer + one space back, and move the left cell of the giant's rear one space right. Combine the tweaked Pecanins Giants, along with their supporting HWSS's, to produce an even bigger Schick Carrier. Even the Blinker Ship 1 can be built with Pecanins Giants.
I assume that, given enough supportive smaller ships, and their supporters if needed, any length of a "fish" can be created and even used for Schick Engine. Is it right? And is it possible to reduce the amount of supporters for extra-long "fishes"?

You seem to be describing a regular OWSS, not a Pecanins' Giant — the point about the PG is not the length, but the fact that its tail has period 20 rather than period 4 (and this makes it obviously incompatible with a Schick engine, which has period 12).

Well, yes — all a Schick engine asks is the two tail sparks every four generations, and you can always place two OWSS belly-on. For a somewhat complex flotilla example:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 35, rule = B3/S23
6b2obo$5bo5bo$4b2ob2o$5b3ob4o$6bo3$2b13o$2bo12bo$2bo16bo$3bo11bo2b7o$
17b2ob3o2bo$bo13bo2b7o$o18bo$o14bo$15o4$2b11o$2bo10bo$2bo14bo$3bo9bo2b
7o$15b2ob3o2bo$5bo7bo2b7o$4bo12bo$4bo8bo$4b9o4$6b4o$5b6o$4b2ob4o$5b2o!
(the upper escort is half an X66)

Reduce from what? I think this shows the longest 3-spaceship flotilla possible. It doesn't seem to be possible to place small spaceships one after other for suppression, as the tail spark from the OWSS will interfere with a back escort.
