Missing Object in Catalog

I have found a still life that is seemingly not in the catalog:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
2bo$2b3o$2o3bo$bo2bobo$bobo2bo$2bo3b2o$3b3o$5bo!
I actually searched through the whole twenty-bit still life catalog at pentadecathlon.com, and didn't find it.

I must have just missed it, then. Is there any way to synthesize it from 12.121 (the one-sided version)?

The one-sided object is a http://conwaylife.com/wiki/Cis_fuse_with_two_tails and the two sided is the siamese version, like the http://conwaylife.com/wiki/Loaf_siamese_loafis of loaves.

I don't have a synthesis for this yet. The usual means of adding tails doesn't work; this is the closest I could get using two copies of the least-obtrusive tail-adding mechanism I know. It's close, but needs a bit of tweaking:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 28, rule = B3/S23
6bo$4bobo$5b2o8bo$15bobo$bo13b2o8bobo$2bo16bobo3b2o$3o6b2o8b2o5bo$8bo

11b3o$2b3o8bo$4bo$3bo2$5b2o$6b2o$5bo3b2o$8b2o$10bo2$4b2o$5b2o$4bo!
Another more promising method would be to add one tail, then use a mechanism that adds a tail to attach to something else that's already there. I remember recently working with something like that; I'll have to find it again to see if it can work here.

Gen. 13 of that looks like an hourglass with two tails!

Exactly! That was the point! The two tail-adding mechanisms both sort-of work; unfortunately, they interact and leave a bit of toxic debris attached to the desired object. I tried a few obvious tricks to eliminate it, but they either formed the tails incorrectly, or always left the attached debris. It's possible that some less obvious way of smashing the two beehives might work, or else using something sightly different than two beehives.

Oops - never mind. I didn't quite parse what you said, which is quite different than what I thought you said.

Interesting. Perhaps some perturbation of the above might yield the hourglass with two tails. (Then again, if we figure out the way to add "two joined tails" to something, that can work, both for the object in question, and also for the hourglass).

I finally worked out a synthesis. I wasn't actually working on this, but I got side-tracked when I was looking at reducing the LWSS-emulator synthesis. I took a look at the boat-to-integral conversion mechanisms, and two of them together got very close to what was needed. The last step here can also be used on an hourglass.

Code: Select all

You can also branch and cross it:

Trivia: Desipte the object being connected, a fuse almost always fails to work.
I found only one fuse.
