Should all the oscillators/things in the gallery of 44P38 be changed to using yujh's reduction?
Also, I discovered figure eight on 44P38 independently, if not first.

p120 interchange hassler in OCA:HoneyLife doesn't works in B38/S238:

Code: Select all

x = 32, y = 18, rule = B38/S238
13b2o2b2o$13b2o2b2o$13b2o2b2o6$2o28b2o$2o28b2o6$13b2o2b2o$13b2o2b2o$13b
2o2b2o!
Most likely it should be in OCA:Pedestrian Life.
What's about adding information about B38/S238-specific oscillators from Catagolue instead of "p120"?

Code: Select all

The colors are for the smallest known oscillator of each period, so unless someone manages to find a p39 under 46 cells, the "p39" in the table will stay that way for now.

I'd like to merge the p1 wiki article. It reads: "P1 is an abbreviation for period 1, i.e., stable. In the context of logic circuitry, this tends to mean that a mechanism is constructed from Herschel conduits that contain only still lifes as catalysts." My questions is, which article is the best merge target? And is there a better way to word it?

It seems reasonable to merge with the still life article, as the tag on "p1" suggests.

However, the Life Lexicon also has a couple of sentences on "p1" as opposed to "p2" slow salvos, which wouldn't fit under "still life" at all. That might have been one of the reasons that "p1" existed as a separate Lexicon entry in the first place.
In the context of slow glider construction, a P1 slow salvo is one in which there are no constraints on the parity of gliders in the salvo, because the intermediate targets are all stable constellations. (The usual alternative is a "P2 slow salvo", where the relative timing between adjacent gliders can be increased arbitrarily, but only by multiples of two ticks.)
But I see that that's covered now as a section of the slow salvo article.

Any objection to acting on the suggestion posted on some of the articles for the following patterns to rename them? That is, rename each of them rather than try to merge them into the symmetry article.

2.2.4
2.2.5
2.2.6
2.3.3
2.3.4
2.3.5
2.3.6

(completing my thought)
I agree that the DRH positional names are obsolete and have to go. But while apgcodes are great identifiers they seem problematic as pattern names. They are hard to impossible to remember and names should be easy to remember and use to communicate and use. So what is wrong with #P#[.#] naming? So instead of 2.2.4 becoming xp2_8ilhmgz14a86 it would be 19P2.n (just need to determine n).

The OEIS sequence A196447 is mentioned in relation to the construction of the grandfather problem, but should it also be mentioned somewhere on the Garden of Eden page, most probbly under "Explicit examples"? If I assembled it correctly, it should be:

Code: Select all

Could someone that knows what they're doing update List of common spaceships? The last update to that page's statistics is from pre-natural loafer days, and at least three natural spaceship discoveries have been made since then. The actual statistics themselves would also benefit a lot from an update given the massive increase in searching power and sample size that has happened recently.

As long as it's just named 2c/3. The 2c/3 wire is diagonal.

On https://conwaylife.com/wiki/Main_Page, down in the Pattern Collection section, I am seeing:
  • Glider syntheses for {{#dpl:categorymatch=Patterns_that_can_be_constructed_with%|resultsheader=%TOTALPAGES%|format={{#if,:,,:|}}}} patterns.
Did something break with some formatting? Seen in Chrome on desktop and mobile.

Edit/reply from Nathaniel, rather than bumping the topic with a reply: This was a result of a MediaWiki update, which has now been fixed.

Is it at all possible to list pages in other namespaces which aren't linked to or used anywhere? A list of unused RLE: namespace pages would be useful.

Congratulations on eliminating the RLE:loafer/RLE:lobster oddity! How exactly does Special:ApiSandbox help with that issue?

Also, what do you think about the three drafts in my user page? A recent complaint inspired me to make a navbox for glider-accepting devices, and I have since included many sorted links in my sketch.

One-cell-thick pattern has a typo. 2^20, mentioned in one of the image captions, is equal to 1048576, not 1048567.

Basically, it allowed us to retrieve a list of pages in a given namespace in JSON format, including the numeric IDs:
Image

(apologies for the large screenshot, this was sent to me by muzik on Discord)

We were then able to access these pages using the IDs rather than the page titles. We weren't able to get to them before, since MediaWiki apparently defaults to the first page it finds with a given title, incorrectly assuming that the duplicate titles would've been caught earlier on.

Next I had to actually move the pages. I deleted the "normal" versions of each page using the ordinary delete menu, then I used the API to move the other version to the same name. Normally, this would throw the following error:

Code: Select all

{
    "error": {
        "code": "selfmove",
        "info": "The title is the same; cannot move a page over itself.",
        "*": "See https://conwaylife.com/w/api.php for API usage. Subscribe to the mediawiki-api-announce mailing list at <https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/lists/mediawiki-api-announce.lists.wikimedia.org/> for notice of API deprecations and breaking changes."
    }
}
However, I was able to bypass this by specifying the pages to be moved using the numeric ID rather than their name:

https://conwaylife.com/w/index.php?titl ... did=102388
https://conwaylife.com/w/index.php?titl ... did=102390
https://conwaylife.com/w/index.php?titl ... did=102394

There are various "List of common ..." pages on the wiki, based on Catagolue data. They are-out-of-date. They won't be kept up-to-date. They combine data that is reported nicely by Catagolue with other data.

I think they need to all go away.

If so, is there anything worth saving? Or replacing them with?

Unmaintainable data is misleading, making the wiki unauthoritative. What say you?
