Fixed (changing the snippet to say 1969, as per the story in Conway's biography by Siobhan Roberts).

I'd like to suggest that a "crotchet ship" entry be added to the wiki since I have used it a lot recently. I have provided some starting information for such an entry, if anyone thinks it is a good idea and wants to polish it up. Otherwise don't worry about it.

------------------------------------------------

A crotchet ship is a c/3 ship which contains one or more "crotchet" components on one end.
The other end must be stabilized with another component, typically an edge-repair spaceship.
Here is a typical one containing four extra crotchets attached to a crotchet which is integral to the edge-repair spaceship.

x = 40, y = 16
34bo$32b3ob3o$31boo6bo$26bo3bobbo3boo$25b4o$20bo3bo3bo$19b4o4bobbo$14b
o3bo3bo6bo$13b4o4bobbo$8bo3bo3bo6bo$7b4o4bobbo$bbo3bo3bo6bo$b4o4bobbo$
o3bo6bo$bobobbo$5bo!

Goldtiger997 found a reaction which can add a new crotchet to the end of an existing crotchet ship.
This allows the whole series of crotchet ships to be constructable since the initial edge-repair spaceship can also be constructed.

x = 59, y = 68
41bo$40bo$40b3o4$6bobo$7boo31bo$7bo32bobo$40boo17$18bo$16bobo$17boo7$
30bo$29boo$29bobo5$14bobo$15boo8b3o$15bo9bo$26bo$7b3o$9bo$bo6bo$boo$ob
o50bo$27boo22b3ob3o$27bobo20boo6bo$27bo17bo3bobbo3boo$44b4o$39bo3bo3bo
$38b4o4bobbo$33bo3bo3bo6bo$32b4o4bobbo$27bo3bo3bo6bo$26b4o4bobbo$25bo
3bo6bo$26bobobbo$30bo$$6boo$5bobo$7bo!

There are various ways to remove the end crotchet from a crotchet ship to make the next smaller one.
For example, a boat can be used for this purpose without being destroyed.

x = 22, y = 25
boo$bobo$bbo14$14bo$13b4o$8bo3bo3booboo$7b4o5bobboo$bbo3bo3bo7bobbo$b
4o4bobbo$o3bo6bo$bobobbo$5bo!

Goldtiger997 built a edge-repair spaceship to glider converter. By adding boats to this reaction as shown above, a converter can be made for any sized crotchet ship.

x = 20, y = 52, rule = B3/S23
15b2o$9b2o5bo$9bobob3o$3bo7bobo$3b3o5b2o$6bo$5b2o2$b2o$bobo14b2o$2bo
15b2o4$8bo$7b4o$2bo3bo3b2ob2o$b4o5bo2b2o$o3bo7bo2bo$bobo2bo$5bo26$7b3o
$6bo3b2obo$b3o2b3o3b3o$obob3o4bo3bo$bo4bo7bo$4b2o!

The end crotchet can react with various still lifes to release a glider while removing the crotchet.
This glider can then be used to rebuild the still life so that the reaction can be repeated,
and can also release a LWSS traveling upwards to eventually produce a glider convoy which can
add the crotchet back onto the advanding ship. This enables a psuedo-Heisenburp reaction to be built.
The first one of these was built on 1 February 2023.

Can someone do a systematic update to RLE:Trafficlighthasslers? As noted on the traffic light page it was from October 26, 2021. I reverted a recent attempt on the grounds of a single addition being incomplete with date and inconsistent with page.

Should we add (23,5)c/79 Herschel climber to Boat-crawling crawlers:

could someone rewrite the Conduit page? it seems more focused on Herschel conduits than the actual Herschel conduit page itself.

Bill Gosper points out that there's no listing for "Period-30 glider gun" in the Category:Guns list.

This is because there's no infobox on the Period-30 glider gun article, right? Is there a good way to fix this without adding an arbitrary infobox for one of the alternate p30 guns?

I just added several categories manually, following the current version of period-60 glider gun.

It might be a good idea to have an alternative way of automatically putting pages into categories, without necessarily having an infobox (or without necessarily having a visible infobox).
Would it be a good idea to create an alternative invisible template for adding automatic categories?
Would it be a good idea to add an optional parameter that would hide the infobox, but still add automatic categories?
(I could (probably) just do something myself, but that has the usual disadvantages of making changes that affect multiple pages without first making sure there's a consensus for that.)

I'm not sure which solution would be the most robust and generally applicable, but I agree that this needs to be solved, as came up in the tiki bar discussion of the pitfalls of showing huge patterns in an infobox.

Is it technically possible to split the edit history of one page and move some revisions to the edit history of another revision? See Talk:Hybrid_rule for the context.

For more context, see also https://conwaylife.com/w/index.php?oldi ... ybrid_rule .

Apparently this is a question to the mod team, but I'll anyway repeat my opinion from https://conwaylife.com/w/index.php?titl ... did=126293

If past experience is any guide, manipulations with edit history are usually a bad solution, because that requires a moderator to intervene. Something that does not require a non-moderator user to act like a moderator, neither a moderator to intervene, is clearly better than something that requires one of those.

Could there be a page (or a subpage) that lists all of the pentadecathlon hasslers, including maybe the p47 pre-pulsar hassler, but only because it uses the signature phi sparks? If it were a subpage, it would just be an extension of the subpage already on the pentadecathlon page.
Helloshe, I like pentadecathlons and small-period motifs. I also don’t like how some people say that a hassler can’t be mutually supporting; a better metric would be that if there are any casing stator cells in the object being hassled.

The "Line Puffer" wiki article shows a p42 rake. Its description should be a "forward rake" instead of a "backrake".
