Like button in forum request
Re: Like button in forum request
This has come to be a real surprise to me. But why does it have to be a heart shape exactly?
I want to know how I can hide the hearts from my posts. Please, my posts looks terrible with them.
Edit: Now I have found it in Edit Profile. (but still shows to other people) But the letter x still shows up!

Can confirm the existence of this.
As for the concept of likes themselves, I personally support Brian Prentice's viewpoint. The current implementation at least seems mildly unprofessional although that's probably a personal thing that may be discounted.

How to do that on phone?

Re: Like button in forum request
I've moved the hearts up to the top row, alongside the quote button, so that no extra vertical space is wasted. Thoughts? I also made it blue instead of red (you may have to hard-refresh your browser to see the change) so that it doesn't stand out quite so much.
Done -- if a post has 0 likes, it now just shows the heart with no number.
I've fixed the logo issue. The other issue has been noted for now.
Fixed -- the x is now gone if you hide "likes".
I imagine you can't.
Re: Like button in forum request
Could there be a button to the left of the like button which, if you click on it, displays the amount of people who liked the post?

Re: Like button in forum request
I now like/appreciate the way the button is shown/represented, but it isn't exactly a "like" button.
The blue color is nice, but other buttons are not colored. (I have no problems with that)
All the other buttons' first word (when you hover your mouse on the button) is capitalized except for the heart button.
Oh and after you like a post, the text still says "click to like this post".
Can't it be shorter with "Like this post" instead? Don't forget the "sorry, you cannot like your own post" to maybe even just "You can't like your own post".
There is one more thing. I kinda want the option to hide the hearts from a specific post (not others posts). (It's not really needed though)
All of this are just minor opinions of mine.

A notification showing yujh's like came up, and also dvgrn's like.

Nathaniel,
Please state clearly why you have added a "Like Button" to all the forum posts.

Re: Like button in forum request
I've shortened and capitalized the mouseover text. Unfortunately, I doubt the other changes will happen -- they would require more mucking around in the guts of this extension than I think I have in me right now.JP21 wrote: ↑May 4th, 2021, 10:42 amAll the other buttons' first word (when you hover your mouse on the button) is capitalized except for the heart button.

To provide an alternative to "wow, congrats!"-type posts. It's reasonably natural to want to provide positive feedback for good work, but a forum post doing so is just clutter.

Please make "off" the default.Nathaniel wrote: ↑May 3rd, 2021, 7:16 pmFortunately, this can be turned off in your user settings: https://www.conwaylife.com/forums/ucp.p ... on_options
I'll update my earlier post with this info, and I'll look into making "off" the default.

Re: Like button in forum request
Nathaniel,
I've completely changed my opinion on the like buttons. Today I read a post and all I wanted to say was "Thanks, you have clarified everything" so I simply clicked the heart.

Re: Like button in forum request
I have likes off, however I am still getting notifications when people like my posts. (Also, can the like-related bit on user profiles be hidden as well?)
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring

Re: Like button in forum request
There are two separate options: the option here turns off the like icon on forum posts, and the option here turns notifications off.
There's no super quick/easy way for me to make this happen, but I'll look into it.
Related questions for anyone and everyone: does anyone actually like receiving notifications when your posts are liked? I'm thinking about disabling like notifications entirely.

Re: Like button in forum request
I think it makes sense to disable it, but maybe leave an option to turn on the notifications.
I also think that the sprites for the like button should be switched, where it would be hollow by default and filled in when you like a post. This would give liked posts a higher contrast with the rest of the page, and stand out relative to other posts.

If this is something we can pick I'd make it grey like its neighbours until it's clicked.silversmith wrote: ↑May 10th, 2021, 8:04 amI also think that the sprites for the like button should be switched, where it would be hollow by default and filled in when you like a post. Re: Like button in forum request
Do not disable the notifications entirely. Just keep the option so that I can track down every usage of the like/heart button in my posts.
I'm currently waiting for an option to remove the like/heart feature in specific posts. Something that might be like this:
Add the possibility to see total number of likes that a person ever got at its profile.
Please add that.

Pretty sure that was intentionally not included. https://www.conwaylife.com/forums/viewt ... al#p129507
Someone please merge this thread with the normal one.

Re: Like button in forum request
Now the second issue seems fixed for the posts and topics part, but the links to users remain broken due to a missing segment of "/forums" before "/memberlist.php". Meanwhile, thanks for fixing the first one!

May I request a feature:
Swap colors of the default heart(currently blue) and the liked heart(currently empty),
so that the liked heart(blue) stands out from the default heart(empty)

Re: Like button in forum request
I don't know if this has been pointed out — and it's pretty minor anyways, but trying to get a user's profile from the list of Like actions doesn't work.
The like list has links such as:
https://conwaylife.com/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2
, which doesn't exist, as it should be
