would User:C28/Potential Candidates for POTY 2023 be useful for gathering candidates for POTY 2023?
Sure, could be very handy! It depends on how many of those entries actually get nominated, I suppose, but having links and details all organized in a table can save a whole lot of time.

If someone goes ahead and nominates everything in the table, and then the table gets used to add new nominations if and when they come in, it seems like that will be a really good starting point.
Can I nominate everything in the table? Also, when is POTY 2023 going to start? We should place it towards the beginning of the next year when all 2023 discoveries have been made.

When the POTY 2023 nomination thread is created, you will be able to nominate everything in the table, all in one nomination if you want. Yes.

POTY2023 starts after the end of 2023. Sometimes people get a little impatient and create threads before January 1, but I'm sure it will happen on January 1 at the latest.

b3s23love has indicated some interest in running the POTY 2023 nomination and voting process again next year, so let's assume that that's what will happen unless b3s23love says otherwise.

That just got a "like" from bs23love. Of course you can help if you want to. It's a lot of work to collect all the links and write all the descriptions, and that usually gets spread out between several people.

... Or, more accurately, one person usually gets stuck with the whole job for a while, and then that person gets understandably burned out more often than not because it's too much work. C28's advance work, with corrections or additions as needed, could be a great help in avoiding that common pitfall when POTY 2023 rolls around.

@C28, will it work for you to put a note at the top of the LifeWiki page where you have that table, to say that contributions from other users are welcome there? We've had some trouble recently with people editing other people's user pages without permission, so it's good to give permission explicitly when that's the intention.

why is "report" so close to "quote"? i keep hitting one instead of the other, and i don't want to report someone when i'm trying to quote a post.

The "Report" button has to be close to something. There's a one-click fix (your browser's Back button) so this doesn't seem like much of a practical usability issue.

Tradition! This has happened in previous years. It's December now -- holiday season.

It seems eminently reasonable that something hosted on hatsya.com should add a Santa hat to its icon in December.

Switching the eater2 to one of its hat-based pseudo-still-life variant (with a table, let's say) for the duration of December would be even cooler, but probably a little too subtle.

That page is old. E.g. there are Perl scripts listed. If you copy some RLE in a clipboard and select "File -> Run Clipboard" in Golly, then the program shows a message "Sorry, but Perl scripting is no longer supported."

This is a fairly old discussion, but I suspect that it explains the missing strikethrough option:

A strikethrough BBCode has never been included by default, so yes, it has has to be created before it can be used.

None that I know of -- except for using Google, of course.

That trick doesn't work for "whole phrase" today, but it probably will tomorrow, or whenever the Google bot next does a crawl through recent posts.

Also, it doesn't work if you try to search site:www.conwaylife.com/forums -- but it does work with site:conwaylife.com/forums. And it's not entirely reliable, of course -- it won't find posts that haven't been crawled since they were created, for whatever reason.

The page p71 dependent reflector loop is broken, and the static image links are out of sync with the RLEs (File:p71glidershuttle.png, File:p59glidershuttle.png, File:p31glidershuttle.png, File:p26glidershuttle.png).

The GPU works in a way that these symmetries don't do well, so nobody has searched them.

I feel like we need to do something about the "Patterns for NewComers" otismo thread. These patterns are definitely not for newcomers, and it's made worse by being in Patterns rather than Sandbox (although moving it wouldn't fully fix the problem).
