bubblegum's lv bugs site

Post by bubblegum » May 3rd, 2020, 8:24 pm

because I feel like I'm reporting too many minor bugs in lifeviewer.

Anyways, the star of this post is the following:

Code: Select all

#C there is still nothing special about this
x = 7, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
obobobo$bobobo$obobobo$bobobo$obob3o$bobobo$obobobo!
(for your convenience)

Selecting from top-left to bottom-right and nudging it works fine. Selecting from any other corner deletes the selected pattern instead. Rotating the selection first fixes it, while flipping does not.
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring

Code: Select all

#C why would there be anything special about this
x = 10, y = 2, rule = LifeHistory
2B2D2E2A2C$2B2D2E2A2C!
Selecting "draw with state 2" gives some interesting results. For one: it is impossible to overwrite state 4 cells. For two (does anyone say that?): starting with the state 4 patch and holding to the right gives states 4, 4, 2, 4 respectively. (It's transitioning to the off cell for each of them.)

[possibly-or-probably-already-known]
Also I believe the state 5 (mark-start) cells turn into state 4 (mark-off) cells, but those can only turn into state 3 (mark-on) cells.
So par exemple, (why do i do this) this:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 11, rule = LifeHistory
.E3.E10.2E$2E3.2E4.2E2.2E.E5.2E$E.E.E.E4.2E3.E.E5.2E$2.E.E13.E$.2E.2E
14.E$.E3.E$20.E$18.E$11.2E3.E.E5.2E$11.2E2.2E.E5.2E$16.2E!
in 14 generations becomes this:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 11, rule = LifeHistory
.C3.C10.2C$2C3.2C4.EC2.2C.C5.CE$C.C.C.C4.EC3.C.C5.CE$2.C.C13.C$.2C.2C
14.C$.C3.C$20.C$18.C$11.EC3.C.C5.CE$11.EC2.2C.C5.CE$16.2C!
[/possibly-or-probably-already-known]

aand is there a way to stop killgliders doing this or is it unavoidable

Code: Select all

#C in no way would there be anything special about this
#C [[ KILLGLIDERS ]]
x = 18, y = 9, rule = B3/S23

What is the issue? KILLGLIDERS is, erm, killing the glider.

Well it's working, but is there a way to not kill the glider if it's going to interact with the line of cells below?

On second thought this just seems like a compromise. It's fine

When copying the pattern into the clipboard, selecting from top-left to bottom-right works. However, selecting from any other corner and copying to clipboard results in something like

Code: Select all

x = -5, y = 7, rule = B3/S23

This has been fixed. Note it was only an issue when copying to the external clipboard. Thanks for reporting!

NEW ERROR!

actually group of errors

There seem to be a few instances where LifeViewer complains about a "u" character in the pattern (opening an extendedlife pattern which was meant to be in extendedlifefancy then swapping to it, loading a pattern from a different LifeViewer, etc.)

Also for some reason if the load pattern feature actually works it makes all the buttons and text and sliders small

or maybe it's not always that, it's my first time trying to use it

I can't reproduce this. Please let me know which browser you use and also if you have an example that shows this issue.

That one is more like a "deliberate minor difference" between the way LifeViewer works and the way the rule table works.

It turns out to be a lot easier to have the two "marked" colors be static extra layers of information, than to have state-5 yellow do the trick that it does in Golly of never going back to 5 after it gets to 4.
