cellular automata journal: von Neumann

Post by tracefleeman » December 28th, 2014, 8:25 pm

I am looking to start and publish a journal on cellular automata. This would include patterns, new CA, new definitions, et cetera. It would be peer reviewed (by me and everyone else interested). I could probably program both a "newsletter" type system and a preprint server. A good name for it would be von Neumann.

Good idea?

Naming a journal after some person is generally not a good idea; I suggest the name Space since cellular automata take place on a space of cells.

Technically, it's not a space mathematically. Also, don't you think a mathematics paper called "Space" would be a bit misleading?

I would vote for "Cells" but that's taken. Maybe _cells to stylize it a bit? I'm creating a sample volume right now.
I also would motion to use these formats for different subject matters:

Patterns: pattern overview (a visual description of the pattern) -> pattern description (other description) -> attributes (why it's special) -> conclusion

Conjecture: abstract -> introduction -> conjecture -> conclusion

Theorem: abstract -> introduction -> proof -> conclusion

Cellular automata: abstract -> introduction -> states -> rule -> attributes

Class definitions: abstract -> formal written definition -> mathematical definition -> conclusion

Of course, to be published, it must be new and generally interesting.

Well this would be cool. As this area is somewhat neglected in the academy, good luck with convincing some university it's worth to fund.

Most of CA research is done by serious hobbyists and not in academy, and although some papers are published most of the real CA knowledge is not in any journal/book.
