Something weird is going on here, not sure if the viewer is at fault or if it's catagolue:

Fixed in commit https://gitlab.com/apgoucher/catagolue/ ... 2495e5584f

Is it just me or are the images significantly offset to the side here?

Yes, it's because it uses the pattern's bounding box, which then becomes a parallelogram when you apply the affine transformation (to make the hexagonal cells regular), and that parallelogram is then used to determine the image's bounding box.

Why are there two p2s called "beacon on something" and ":D"?

"something" was imported from an older census, and ":D" was Calcyman's idea of a joke.

I don't think it was my idea; I copied it from an anonymous comment someone made on the page.

xs19_0br0f96z321's name appears to have a typo. Dock should be replaced with block.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

Someone apparently added some messless objects to the C1 census that don't meet the 500 threshold: https://catagolue.hatsya.com/census/b3s23/C1/messless

Also, Catagolue lists "xkcd" jokes patterns: xkcd_48jsj8gzwe9e

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 21, rule = LifeColorful
11.E$10.3E$10.E.2E$13.E4$2.2B$.2B$2B$.2B15.2D$19.2D$18.2D$17.2D4$7.C$
7.2C.C$8.3C$9.C!
I have reduced the glider cost of quadratic growth to eight and probably to seven. Looking for conduits...

Why does a vacuum cost three gliders?

Why would someone bother to optimally synthesise literal nothing?

I guess it's synthesis for the sake of synthesis.

The page itself https://catagolue.hatsya.com/object/xs0_0/b3s23 correctly says that the vacuum costs 0 gliders.

If you remove B3/S23/C1 for a sample soup, it displays the same soup in a different file format.
Edit: In Morley/Move, it says that the glider is a spaceship.

B2n3-jn/S1c23-y is an interesting rule. It has a replicator, a fake glider, an OMOS and SMOS, a wide variety of oscillators, and some signals. Also this rule is omniperiodic.

Maze (b3s12345) is listed on the list of rules as having one symmetry, but the rule's page doesn't have any symmetries. what happened?

Older versions of apgsearch incorrectly assumed the glider would be a spaceship somehow. Just gotta wait until apgoucher adds -33435277 gliders to the census.

Catagolue classifies P1 Spaceship as Still lifes.
https://catagolue.hatsya.com/census/g3b2s/C1/xs3
Edit:This pattern is classified as ov, even though it is less than 40x40 in size.
https://catagolue.hatsya.com/census/b012345678s/C1/ov

Edit2:This soup does not generate ov_p1.

Why is xs20_yo33zo4oyaccz01y32552 so expensive? Shouldn't transfer.py have reduced it with add beehive and add block components?
I am tentatively considering myself back.
