Do you use Golly to experiment with Life? If not, it's a very useful tool for many things. It can export patterns in RLE format, which can be posted here directly within a {code}pattern...{/code} (except replace braces with square brackets). These will let others copy the pattern, or run the LifeViewer applet directly in the browser window. For example, the R pentomino:

Yup, these things -- "pure glider generators" -- were a relatively hot item in the early 1970s; they got mentioned in early LIFELINE newsletters. Now there are so many of them that we don't know what to do with them, but it's still a good place to start exploring Conway's Life.

Some Life relatives, such as LeapLife, also have this property. I once discovered a partial p5 domino sparker in LeapLife, and using this method, two of the sparker partial is placed next to each other, mutually stabilizing each other.

(Sry for promoting but I can't think of any other example that was stabilized with gutter symmetry manually)
