I recently found a 21-cell pure glider generator whose initial configuration consists entirely of lone dots.
Should it be added to the wiki, or did anyone find a smaller one?
What is the smallest two-cell-thick pure glider generator?
Also, are there any one-cell-thick pure glider generators?

This is probably less useful than it looks, as I don't think it's even possible to get that predecessor into that position without it having previously already interacted with the claw w/tail.

First of all, welcome to the forums!

Yes, it's a collision between a Kok's galaxy and a glider, so it must be known from a long time ago (since Kok's galaxy is long known, and other people have tested all collisions of a glider with it. I just can't provide where they can be for now.
Also, a meth that takes 3.7k isn't very impressive, we have much smaller examples, like bunniesthat last more than 10k, which is definetly much more impressive.

While looking for shuttles, I haven't found anything decent that's flipped or rotated, but I did find two that almost went back to the same spot in the same orientation, although the first wouldn't have a good sparker even if it was exact. The first is one cell off, and the second is three cells off. If they did work, the first would be p114 (look at generation 104), and the second would be p68 (look at generation 35, although they would converge one generation later).

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
b3o$o$2o$b2o!
It's of interest because, if it interacts with a certain spark in the right way, it can form a switch engine, and this interaction is responsible for the only infinite growth from soup i've found.

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
obo$2b2o6bo$11bo$10bo$5bo3bo$6b2o$8bo$6bo!

Note this doesn't infinitely grow here since it's not stable, I just pasted this to show the interaction which causes the engine to arise.
I also think it's how the switch engine arises in 2x12 infinite growth

Does this pattern have a name? I call it the digital 8 methuselah due to how it looks on generation 7, but certainly someone must have seen this one before

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
b3o$o$2o$b2o!
[code]

Can you use code instead of viewer?

Code: Select all

x = 192, y = 53, rule = B3/S23
