I bet there's some really useful stuff still out there to be found along these lines. It seemed to me like the next thing to try might be a good long run with ptbsearch, since it does a fairly efficient job of dealing with transparent blocks or beehives.
I stopped after
this report, and am not planning to pick up the search again immediately. Paul Callahan stopped searching after checking with gencols for possibly interesting reflection reactions.
Paul and I seem to share a tendency toward obsessive search behavior: once one gets the feeling that there's something to be found, well, the natural thing to do is to keep trying searches until whatever-it-is shows up. But
"once burned, twice shy", as the saying goes: we've both been known to lose a lot of sleep and significant amounts of time that Should Have Been Spent Doing Something Else (TM) by accidentally allowing ourselves to slip into find-a-solution-at-all-costs mode.

kk, just not sure if they missed that the block can be replaced by a boat, which allows the LOM to evolve further (some dot spark would interact with the block, but not the boat replacement. Well that should not open that much more possibilities.

New glider-activated factory...
Hm, one of the uses of a spare half-honeyfarm is a two-glider one-time reflector (G9 glider pair). But unfortunately it doesn't
quite work in this context:
Code: Select all
x = 99, y = 43, rule = LifeHistory
.A49.A$2.A49.A$3A47.3A10$4.A49.A$5.A49.A$3.3A47.3A8$97.2E$91.2E5.E$

.C47.D.D5.2E$33.C.C47.D.D4.E2.E$34.C49.D6.2E2$29.2C7.2C39.2D5.2C$28.C
2.C5.C2.C37.D2.D4.2C$29.2C7.2C39.2D2$34.C49.C$33.C.C47.C.C$33.C.C47.C
.C$34.C49.C!
... Well, sour grapes, I suppose it wouldn't have been too useful anyway, since you'd really have needed a glider triplet to activate it.

It looks like a periodic conduit, but it's actually not, as far as circuitry is concerned. The p6 pipsquirter deletes an Annoying Beehive, but it works the same way regardless of relative timing. At worst, it takes 5 ticks longer to clean it up.
Well, I guess Kazyan 'tight-turning HRxH' is in fact a decent hive factory, it seems it can be also used for starting a new track.

mmm, I think I never saw this one in this thread..., but this h-to-g minus 1 eater makes a very good h-to-boat instead:
