There are two toaster (lightweight volcano) variants I found that I have not seen before. (also some extra stator variants)

Here is a new p14 oscillator found today with dr:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 16, rule = B3/S23

Can anyone point me to "Eppstein p5, rotor side, 42 volatility 0.802" referenced on the "Period 5 oscillators" wiki page? An rle or apgcode would be grand.

Yikes, that one's hard to find. "Eppstein's p5" isn't really the name of the thing, or at least not a good name, because David Eppstein assembled an awful lot of p5 sparkers over the years. This seems to be the one being referenced:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
6b2o$6b2o2$6bo4b2o$5bobo2bobo$5b2obo$7bo2bo$7b2o$8b2o$7b2o$b4o4bobo$ob
2obo6bo$2o2b2o5b2o$2o2b2o$ob2obo$b4o!
The volatility is dead on at 80.22% according to Oscillizer Web. But that "42" for the rotor size is just plain wrong -- it should be 73. 42 is the minimum population. (!)

That oscillator is referred to as "Eppstein's new p5" here, among other places:

Code: Select all

#C 17 Mar 2004 Jason Summers first made this type of p65 gun
#C 18 Mar 2004 David Eppstein trimmed it by using a different endcap
#C for one of the p130s and modifying two adjacent pairs of p5s.
#C Scot Ellison welded the two pair for a reduction.
#C Karel Suhajda welded the pair one cell closer.
#C 19 Mar 2004 David Eppstein's new p5 removes two rows and a column.
#C 07 Jun 2007 Nicolay Beluchenko's new p5 removes two more rows
x = 102, y = 88, rule = S23/B3

P28 Partial

EDIT by dvgrn: complex spark on right with phi-spark-like end (but a plain phi spark doesn't work) shoves traffic light 4 spaces left in 14 ticks.

There's no "28" in Golly's Patterns/Oscillators/traffic-light-hasslers.rle, so I don't think there's known technology that does the same thing.

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 3, rule = B3/S23

Some things to note about these billiard tables that might not be obvious:
  • The first two p7s are related to the first p9.
  • The last two p7s are asymmetric to show four different halves. They were originally found as four different symmetric oscillators.
  • The first p10 is just two copies of a known p10 sparker interacting slightly.
These billiard tables were found with my slight modification of dr. These were the input files (with random seeds s1 to s4 applied manually in the command line):

Here's a p120... but there must be a much easier way to do it. Berger's p30 is essential. It leaves behind junk of a B-heptomino and a block. What I have here is deleting the B-heptomino with a unix and the block (which isn't at the edge of the envelope) with another p120 that was just found a few days ago. However, if you can hit the B-heptomino in a way so that it also destroys the block, it can be made much simpler.

This p69 was one of the first things I found, and it was found that it could be made into an oscillator (but not a gun) by reflecting the gliders. However, there's an alternative approach that might allow the gliders to escape. Sparking here turns the spark into a block, which is correctly positioned to delete the junk. A block isn't the only thing that works; I got it with a loaf at one point, too. Catalyst maybe?

Here's a p120... but there must be a much easier way to do it. Berger's p30 is essential. It leaves behind junk of a B-heptomino and a block. What I have here is deleting the B-heptomino with a unix and the block (which isn't at the edge of the envelope) with another p120 that was just found a few days ago. However, if you can hit the B-heptomino in a way so that it also destroys the block, it can be made much simpler.
I know it's cheating, but it sure is tempting to replace all that complicated stuff with nice simple Simkin glider guns:
