Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits
Congratulations! You have rediscovered the classical transparent block reaction for these two dependent conduits: HFx107B (as in F166) and HR203B (as in Rx262).
(I didn't want to make this post at first and instead sent you a private message, but you seemed to forget to check it just now. So I have deleted it.)
Amd also, please reduce viewer size.
---
While I am here, a question: why has nobody decided to document conduits like the Rx262, F193 and the HLx111R on LifeWiki?

Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits
My own reason for not adding any more conduits to the LifeWiki, is that it was a lot of work just to add the seventeen "classical era" (before 2000) Herschel conduits -- and now that we've got many hundreds of conduits, it just seems much more effective to look up conduits in the Elementary Conduits Collection, than to look them up on the LifeWiki.
Entity Valkyrie added quite a few of the commonest "modern" elementary conduits a while back, but then stopped at (what seemed to me to be) just about the right place. There are lots of conduits that hardly ever actually get used or discussed, so it doesn't seem like anyone will want to look them up in the LifeWiki very often. E.g., Rx262 is a little bit too big to be useful in the gun collection, I think.
If anyone has a different judgment from mine about some of these, I probably won't actually object to them getting added. The three conduits you mentioned are all fairly good candidates to add -- either they're Spartan, or they're near-Spartan and fairly compact. I just tend to think that it would be silly if big awkward conduits like the Bx290 each got their own page.
Maybe a lot of elementary conduits could get a redirect to the Elementary conduits article, though, which has a link to the Elementary Conduits Collection? Not sure, that might still be kind of clutter-y.

Right now I have added F131 (for the unusual pattern recognition) and R126 (for the small p504 Herschel loop).dvgrn wrote: ↑April 27th, 2022, 4:36 am...

Speaking of Bx290, I noticed that it shares some catalysts with HLx111R. Searching for a while returns a surprising amount of elementary conduits starting with the particular combination of snake on bookend (for minimum population, or cis-mirrored bookend for easier glider construction) and snake (or fishhook, again for the two distinct merits):

That all sounds good to me -- those are all very reasonable conduits to have articles about. Maybe further discussion of this kind of thing could go in the Suggested LifeWiki Edits thread, or on the LifeWiki Tiki Bar -- not that I mind it here, it just maybe shouldn't go on too long.GUYTU6J wrote: ↑April 28th, 2022, 8:09 amRight now I have added F131 (for the unusual pattern recognition) and R126 (for the small p504 Herschel loop).

Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits
Wow! That one is quite impressive. It's hard to go back through twenty-odd years of old not-quite clean conduit results and find the ones that were "good except for an Annoying Honeyfarm", but that's a nice Spartan component and has impressive clearance -- even if the pre-honeyfarm starts a few cells from the edge of a reaction envelope, this mechanism might be able to get rid of the whole thing.cvojan wrote: ↑June 21st, 2022, 9:35 amHF eater that works in all eight orientations:Code: Select all

Here's hoping somebody has a memorable problem that this solves -- I'd definitely like to get it into the Elementary Conduits Collection somehow, but we don't currently have a place to collect either half of a "HF -> nothing" conversion.

Blending that honey farm with the beehive+fishhook combo in RNE-19T84 is clever, though. I looked at this list of honey farm catalysts, and then I realized that half of beehive push catalyst works:This new CNE... Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits
300 is a good cutoff repeat time for the ECC, though I don't think there's an official limit -- there's a P-to-L in there with a repeat time of 552, for example. The official 300-tick limit that I know about is part of the collection rules for gmc_nxtman's h-to-h collection in Golly's Signal-Circuitry folder.Jormungant wrote: ↑June 29th, 2022, 7:25 amNothing new here (more or less) but two "legacy" H-to-g in the conduit collection can be refurbished as a R-to-g with repeat time 192...
I guess the issue that made them "legacy" is the fact that this backward spark make the usual b-to-h conduit unusable, but these seem to be healty r-to-g no? (I thought anything with repeat time below 300 was fair game for that collection)
It's too bad that there aren't more X-to-R conduits that actually deliver an R with a nice amount of space all around it, the way the HLx111R does. Even the old G6->R Herschel receiver doesn't allow those R-to-Gs to connect. Is there anything that works besides HLx111R? -- some of those oddball stop-and-restart conduits, maybe, that turn a signal into a beehive + glider which turns back into an R?
By "legacy" do you mean "colored yellow instead of green"? I seem to remember that yellow in the ECC is the marker for "composite" -- i.e., it doesn't really belong in the Elementary Conduits Collection, but it's interesting/potentially useful enough that somebody put it there anyway.

Yes, later on I noticed that it seemed nothing else worked, but there is also a b-to-r that does in fact work:dvgrn wrote: ↑June 29th, 2022, 1:21 pmIt's too bad that there aren't more X-to-R conduits that actually deliver an R with a nice amount of space all around it, the way the HLx111R does. Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits
Nice find! Besides the SKOP improvements, along with actual real useful uses yet to be discovered, this will probably turn out to make a number of awkward cleanup problems at least slightly less awkward. Two that come to mind are reducing the repeat time of the un-suppressed Fx119 from 231 to 190 ticks, with some minor cost in increased weirdness:

I used hersrch to construct new smallest known p59, p61, p67, and p77 guns with this new conduit based on Herschel conduit suggestions by Adam P. Goucher and Dave Greene.
The output glider can be deleted without increasing the bounding box of the conduit:
Code: Select all
x = 29, y = 21, rule = LifeHistory
