Since guntrue_45 is no longer the smallest odd-period gun (this title belongs to guntrue_25), please update page p45 pi-heptomino hassler.
I have discovered SKOP for 115, 188, 492 and gun_ and guntrue_ for 200, 226, 339, 752, 1944, 6624.

What is the general rule on pattern optimization on LifeWiki?
There is a smaller variant of the P15_pre-pulsar_spaceship, both in terms of bounding box (39x51) and cells (252):

Code: Select all

As far as I can tell, there's not much of a general rule to be followed. Maybe someone else can provide a better answer.

From a "purely logical" viewpoint, it might actually be more reasonable (and even more maintainable) to avoid "optimizing" patterns on LifeWiki, and prefer addition of new patterns instead of replacing/removing old versions of patterns (for example, create a new RLE instead of replacing/modifying an already existing RLE; create a new page for a new oscillator/spaceship instead of changing an existing page to describe a different thing).

Obviously things are not that simple, and having many pages has its own disadvantages. But that might still be better (and possibly easier to maintain) than (for example) having a single very long list page, or better than discarding old patterns.

I think it was not a random cell, but rather an intentionally added extra cell to make the bounding box explicit. See post136951

Would it be possible for the page Short table to be recovered alongside its edit history? The number of wiki pages detailing common sparks has increased substantially since 2014, and this one is quite common.

Expand the V spark article to mention the difference between instant V and delayed V, and mention short table there. Short table doesn't need its own page.

Since MediaWiki shenanigans have completely corrupted the page's history I've decided to boldly recreate short table manually, and as its own page, since there's information on the pattern itself that simply wouldn't make sense to include on the V spark page (such as the wick, where the V spark doesn't show up at all, as well as the pattern's name origin and why it doesn't work as an induction coil).

I've created an article for V's other pentomino grandparent, named Crotchet by me, as well. I know that this does kind of go in violation of the whole "using your own terminology on the wiki is a no-no" thing, but others in the spaceship syntheses thread seemed fine with the name (or at least, what the name used to refer to). If it doesn't end up sticking, moving is always an option. Due to the other cases where crotchets arise in B3/S23, an independent page was warranted here as well because "one of the many predecessors of this spark can be used as a tagalong", etc. just wouldn't make sense to include on the V spark page.
